Description Again, this was taken just driving along route 389 somewhere in Southern Utah between Pipe Springs and Hurricane. I am sure that this formation has a name but I haven't been able to find it yet. Nature and Mother Earth have created this vast rock formation hewn from a plateau through erosion but it looks so much like it could have been man made--a temple or a fort/stronghold complex. But man just cannot create something on the same immense scale like this. It just takes your breath away to see it. We had to stop. If you look closely you can see the houses in the settlement there and there is irrigation equipment in the forground. Use those houses to try to get an idea of the scale if you can.

In the Southwest, that's call a mesa. That "flat top", was once the uppermost layer of rock that has been eroded over the eons into the buttes and canyons and fantastic shapes that you see here. The harder the rock layer, the longer it withstands the power of erosion while the softer layers wear away. Anyway, this formation just looks like it was shaped with human hands in so may ways, a temple a fortress all the different bits. Could be called the Acropolis or something! Thanks for the comment, Larry!
