Description For Ironside Industrial,

I've been guilty of using your ship as an example of why I think the judging was unfair as well. I have no excuses really, except that I'm sorry.

Remember, even when other people look at your art and see nothing but a bunch of lines. I see this.

Don't give up.

EDIT: I just realized I switched some of the details in the center >.< Not the fault of the concept, but my own rush.

P.S. frak that contest. Haha. I'm done with it. If there's anything I want now it's that you get reinstated. Both sides treated you horribly, when you really had no control over it.

P.P.S. And I suck at apologies. So yeah... it's awkward. But I really mean it.

P.P.P.S. I realize this might be taken the wrong way as well. I don't care about pageviews, favs, etc. If anyone wants to host it instead of me, feel free to download it and pm me so I can delete this, heh. I surrender all rights to this.

P.P.P.P.S. This isn't about my work or my skills. There is a reason why I purposely did not include my name anywhere in the image.

Commendable, but regarding the "stopping a meme" idea: too late I fear, my noble friend.

I can already see the reverse "LABC < Tornado" becoming the EVE Online equivalent to "Han shot first"

Plus, it would make for a nice, inscrutable T-shirt slogan. I can already imagine other Eve players (total strangers) giving me the secret Masonic handshake as we assiduously avoid eye contact in a bank queue or on the bus...

You got the skills, yet the original in all shape and creativity is....well lacking. Simply by the fact it looks like a gun with a twisted loader.
Idk, i again respect your 3D skills, and ofcourse the good way u used to apologise to this guy it is admirable, but simply the design wasnt a winner for many many reasons.
Just my opinion.

And poor guy :/

It's nice to see someone acknowledge the part they played and attempt to make up for it. And when you can't actually talk to him, this tribute is about all you can do to. I hope people recognise this.

You win the internet for this sir!
Well done, well done indeed!

I never said that the design was bad but i still stand by the fact that its execution was flawed AND it was not terribly original (we already have Catalysts)

Your rendition nailed it imho.

Id fly it.

btw if you want to add it to my EVE Victory Lap project [link] , please feel free to send me the model (will not be used except for the Victory Lap Project)

I'm really happy someone has done this, I feel bad about all the negatives he's received, though it should have only been at the judges. Well done A StepIntoOblivion I hope Ironside sees it. I can actually imagine it as a gate patrolling ship...

Aww. You're like the nicest dude in the world to do that for him. But be honest. It was so vague and basic you had to take quite a bit of creative license with it, and even with that it still isn't an interesting design. It looks like a part of a ship or an antenna or something.

I feel bad for the guy too though. I was completely perplexed when his design showed up in the final 15... but theres being honest with someone and then theres flat out being mean. He shouldn't give up on drawing space ships and things if thats what he wants to do. Also it was lame to tell the dude he won something then yank it away. I agree, frak that contest.

I think it would be nice if L.A. Battlecruiser is included in game, regardless of the final outcome of the contest.

Create your own game and include it in, if you want, but don't suggest things you are not familiar with - such approach already messed contest (rules just dug deeper grave for it).

AlfD In reply to Stavridas [2010-10-25 00:33:40 +0000 UTC]

I meant it in the sense of a "reparation" to Ironside Industrial. Ultimately ,if it is and "icludable" design or not, that is only CCP staff to decide.

Anyway, if needed, they could make any major changes they want to the design if they shall decide to include it (like is stated in the rules, btw)

Stavridas In reply to AlfD [2010-10-25 09:24:04 +0000 UTC]

>I meant it in the sense of a "reparation" to Ironside Industrial.

CCP have nothing to do with it - it's DA fault. So I can't see any reason for CCP to reparate someone's emoragequit by pissing off their player base.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AlfD In reply to Stavridas [2010-10-25 11:57:52 +0000 UTC]

"...by pissing off their player base..."

...like i said they can heavy modify the LA-B in any degree they want to make it "better", "includable" to EVE. They could even make a new battlecruiser design from scrap and just name it anyway they want after the "L.A." initials.

Although CCP is not directly responsible for DA's judging, at least it shares certain degree of responsability for it -they agreed DA judges select the 15 semifinalist, and the terms of that agreement, whatever they where, led to this mess.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Stavridas In reply to AlfD [2010-10-25 13:12:25 +0000 UTC]

Then there was no point in such event from the start. I'm pretty sure CCP can draw lines, curves and boxes themselves. At least they wanted creative composition from entries, then why should they pick up such ordinarity? We all can whine and ragequiting (it don't require artistic skill or heavy thought) - but it does not make our designs notable.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AlfD In reply to Stavridas [2010-10-25 20:38:32 +0000 UTC]

"then why should they pick up such ordinarity?"

And we ran in a circle! If i say that LAB could be "included in game, regardless of the final outcome of the contest", i say this: 3 winners will have their -supposedly- best, magnificent, most creative and beautifull designs included in-game. LAB will not be between those 3 -his entry has been disqualified. Regardless of that, comes the need of a "reparation" to Ironside Industrial. I think a possible way to do it is to "suit" the LAB into EVE somehow (change it, modify it, make it better, different, change it until almost unrecognition, whatever) and include it in-game.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Stavridas In reply to AlfD [2010-10-25 22:02:59 +0000 UTC]

I just can't get your logic: you've already been told, that this entry wouldn't be in finalist anyway (even if he stayed in semifinal). Yet you propose make him a winner (who get his ship in game) just because of his ragequit. 0_o

And why CCP? Make AD to bulid bronze monument for him or something...

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

AlfD In reply to Stavridas [2010-10-26 00:44:46 +0000 UTC]

Logic is simple: Ironside Industrial won't win anything, he's been disqualified. But considering he was disqualified AFTER being selected as semifinalist, and that he was heavily offended and insulted due to inconsistencies in the judging process (responsabilities shared with DA and CCP on one side, and some angry participants on the other) he should receive a reparation.

A possible way to do this is somehow include a "LA" battlecruiser in game (improved, modified, changed, etc.) There could be other ways, of course.

But maybe you think I.I. doesn't deserve any reparation at all, whatever it may be. Ok. Just take it easy.

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

AlfD In reply to Stavridas [2010-10-25 22:30:54 +0000 UTC]

My logic is quite simple.
I'm not proposing "making him a winner", i'm proposing "reparating" him somehow; first, he's been chosen as a finalist, insulted for it (?), then, AFTER ELECTING HIM AS A SEMIFINALIST,disqualified (????).

A way to do so can be the way i proposed. There could be a lot of other ways CCP, DA, yourself or anybody can think of. What's all the fuss about? It's not like if CCP or DA suddenly would "obey" any idea anyone could throw in here.

Maybe you dislike the very idea of reparating him in any way? But if that is the case, ok, no problem. Just take it easy.

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

Stavridas In reply to AlfD [2010-10-26 05:18:49 +0000 UTC]

As I can see you just don't read your writing: "first, he's been chosen as a finalist, insulted for it (?), then, AFTER ELECTING HIM AS A SEMIFINALIST,disqualified (????)." Are you out of your mind or something? Finalists were not chosen yet by the same reason we are speaking now - questionable semifinal.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AlfD In reply to Stavridas [2010-10-26 11:30:45 +0000 UTC]

Of course, he wasn't chosen a finalist, that was a writing mistake of mine. I meant "semifinalist".

Stavridas In reply to AlfD [2010-10-27 08:24:19 +0000 UTC]

Ok. Then tell me (or rather yourself) who chose semifinalists: DA or CCP? And whose game is EVE-online?

Stavridas In reply to AlfD [2010-10-25 09:16:27 +0000 UTC]

I assure you that I understand meaning of such work. My commentaries were mostly for others, who could use your work as justification semifinalists. "Catalyst" is example of jury's "deep knowledge" EVE-universe: absence of attention to concepts already existing in game could say a lot about judging.

Yes I know it looks like a Caldari Catalyst. Yes I know it wasn't the best of designs. Yes I'm angry at the judges and DA for the most idiotic judging ever in the history of contests and for putting him in that position and not even having the balls to defend him. Never thought DA could be this evil someday, I guess that comes with money and growth, eh?

But frankly, I couldn't care less anymore. I just won't be joining any other DA contest ever again.

With this piece of work you just gave the physical proof that all of the 15 semi entries can be turned into soemthing absolutely astonishing! I always said that the idea behind the deign is more important that the design itslef, and that perspective is everything.... now I bet 50bucks that 90% of the people that flamed the news section could not see the potential that you materialized in this design!
My God! I would vote for this to rank number 1 in the finals! You have my respect! I wish IronsideIndustrial could see this!

Is a fact tat ~AStepIntoOblivion made a grate job with this ship and IronsideIndustrial had more impressive work on his gallery.
This ship continues to not impress me as a design concept or "dream ship"; if you take the big shape of it looks like a door handle for me. The amount of details, made me think that was allot of work put into it and was well distributed the usage of each detail. That's all.

Remove the signature and I would totally support that, as I would have supported the original, IF it didn't have the signature.

Not only is it cool, it fits the game... no question. The issue was that he didn't follow the rules, with the original.

Jaime, frankly you should be an administrator here, your responses are the most respectful and responsible and intelligent I have seen so far.

They were wrong to cry foul based on the merits of the art. That is taste and opinion and cannot be questioned, his model, choice and design fit all of the criteria. I felt as bad for Iron as I did for myself for blowing it on rules issues. I just willingly yanked my stuff because I play fair.
