As probably expected, Juno is the name of Sam and Danny's son later on in Captivity.

The name Juno is technically feminine, having a number of meanings. The most prominent one meaning Young, or youth, as it was the name of the roman goddess of women and matrimony. However, the name is taken from one of it's more uncommon meanings; the Shakespearean play, the Tempest where the goddess Juno was considered the queen of gods. Sam more or less takes the term for meaning his name is little tempest (storm). The name seems to stick as Danny has better understanding of the Latin root, meaning young, as he most often refers to the child as baby, rather than a given name.

Despite the fact that the name is indeed feminine, Juno is a male. In some sense there was a bit of gender confusion when he was first born, as he bares a set of very gentle, flowing fins rather than the harsh spines like his father. In truth his design is partially based off a betta fish. Unlike his father who can use stealth, Juno is the type of mer that stands out in the water. His hunting tactics involve a different sort of ambush as the reflective behavior of his fins and scales is used to attract prey rather than stalk it.

Juno ends up spending a majority of his time on land, raised among humans with his mother. Unlike his father, as a hybrid, he's capable of shifting between the two forms, but the transformations do not begin to trigger until he comes in contact with salt water. From then on he is capable of shifting into an aquatic form when in the presence of any water.

He finds himself heavily conflicted between his two halves. As he grows older, he continues to look younger than his years, being mistaken for a young child, even through his teens. He eventually comes to question what he is, seeing as his mermian half was kept hidden from him for years, and his mother would refuse to talk about his father. Upon finding the truth, he sets out in search of his 'other half'; hoping to shed light on what he truly is.
