"This is a really nice spot you got here," she noted with all the air of pleasant conversation."You've seen it," Hiccup reminded her with irritation. Why wasn't she leaving? What was wrong with her?
Astrid grinned and placed her hands on her hips. Her eyes scanned the waterfall.
"I've never really appreciated it before," she said in earnest admiration. "The water's very clear."
"Odin'sβ!"

This was kind of an accidental cliche fanservice moment. Really it was ideal to (a) give Hiccup and Toothless some bro bonding time after being around the village for so long, (b) allow for a private conversation to bring the readers up to speed on the war situation, and (c) an opportunity for Astrid to see the scar (which was initially planned for a later event).
Hiccup's hair is dark because it's wet. Astrid's color schemes for her clothes are ever changing. I'm not sure how to do water droplets so Hiccup's top half looks oddly dry.
The water came out better than I thought it would though
I'll probably have to go back and edit this again and again - so if any of you have suggestions just throw them at me!

This was definately one of my favorite scenes! It was so in character, yet so awkwardly awesome. If that makes sence haha. Hiccup's face is hilarious! Perfectly captures his embarasment. Astrid is adorable, but I'm not so sure about her outfit(I like it I just don't remember it from Hitchups or other drawings). And Toothless! OMG! I did not see him until I was reading the comments and someone mentioned it. Scared me! But, as usual, he looks awesome anyway. <3 it!

Astrid's outfit is constantly changing for me. Just little things here and there - mostly because I can' decide on what she should end up with.

Was there ever a resolution to the thread of Astrid and the scar? I always felt like it was building up to something...

Truthfully, no. Not in Hitchups anyway. There are moments where they meet up with each other as older adults, and in one of those moments Hiccup may reveal the truth to her, but Astrid will never fully believe Hiccup's "situation", even in the face of all the evidence she's given. She will question it to the end of her days.

For water droplets, if you're able to find a brush that gives you a mixture of different sized and shaped circles, create a layer over these dots over your picture of Hiccup (as you won't be adding photoshop effects to the dots themselves, they can be painted in black to make it easier to place them).
Using the magic wand tool, select the negative space around the dots and invert the selection so that the dots themselves are corrected, then select the merged layer of the Hiccup artwork, copy and paste... you'll get a copy of the dot layout, but with the colour tones from Hiccup. You can then play with the layer effect options to make them look like water droplets.

Wow! thank you so much for that great advice. I did play around with that a lot. I couldn't really get anything halfway decent with it, but I'm also still learning a lot about photoshop. Thanks again for volunteering your wisdom!

No problem, it just so happened that a number of months back I had to make something look wet, and ended up mixing various bits from the tutorials I'd seen along with a bit of my own experimentation.

I like the look of irritated shock on Hiccup's face, as well that by this point in the story he had a good start on a beard. (Toothless hasn't noticed it yet, though). Toothless seems mildly amused by the whole situation- and there's some heartspeak going on.
I'm happy you made it more of a humorous, awkward moment than fanservice. I think Hiccup will always have that gently goofy side to him and bashfulness rather than being "Come hither."
I can't think of anything to change here regardng the details of this scene and your story.

It was a really funny time looking up references for Hiccup's face. I think the first thing I googled was 'grimace' and I got a million pictures of a giant, furry, purple gumdrop.
Yeah, I had to wince a little at how it would come off as the "classic" stumble upon the bathing person scene.
