Description Someone asked to see some of my custom action figure work in the popular in the 1970s mego World's Greatest Super Heroes! format, so here's my personal favorite creation in that category... The Incredible Hulk, as he was portrayed by Lou Ferrigno in the CBS television series.

The head and hands are sculpted from scratch by me, and you're looking at resin copies of them that I painted. Much of the rest of the figure is a heavily modified mego "type 2" action figure body, known as such because it was the second type of body used for those types of figures. The shirt and pants originally came with a Waltons or Dukes of Hazard figure probably. I forget which. I'll try to find some of the older work and photos are post it whenever I have a chance. I have a second favorite, who's also a Mighty Marvel Monster who premiered in the Swingin' 70s, just like mego, so look for him around Halloween, if not before.

Thanks so much. I'll always be amazed that mego never did official TV show Hulk toys back in the day.

Lol, well there's always ebay or the collecting aftermarket if you're born after the fact ! By the way, is that Lou and Bill Bixby in your avatar? It's so tiny and my eyes aren't what they used to be lol.

You are my God You should sell some of these! I'd love to buy this. (make sure you add a David Banner figure with interchangeable heads; one normal, one with white-green eyes)

Well Thank you. I'd probably make a pretty lousy god, though lol. It's possible that I could complete andother one for sale, but it would be expensive. Mainly because I want to secure the safety of the head sculpt... I don't want it winding up in the hands of anyone who would just make a duplicate of it and sell them. And just the amount of work involved in hobbling a complete figure together. And, it's becoming more difficult to get a good deal on those vintage mego clothes.

The David Banner idea you suggested is a very, very good one. Thanks for recommending that. I tried to sculpt Mr. Bixby's likeness years ago, and wasn't capable of getting it. If I can capture a decent likeness, I will definitely do as you have said.

I specialy love the detail on the teeth and gums.
and paint work on the eyes which reminds me of the make up
Lou used to have. I love the fact the transformation was similar to Lon Chaney's wolfman since the make up is similar in a way.
I could watch that series on and on

Thanks, I am glad you had a moment to appreciate those little details like that. Yep, I was striving for authenticity there. I think I put gloss clear coat on the eyes and teeth to mske them seem more realistic. Mego's decision to decline on the Star Wars license is well known by fans but I always wondered why they didn't do any TV Hulk stuff. Must've been making plenty of money on the comics versions lol.

it was sad in deed I would have loved to see a
Bill Bixby figure, even a daredevil movie version ( the one in Trial of incredible Hulk which the mego group leader posted)
I mean they sprung for planet of the apes for crying out loud
The conan figure I always hated though, and I didnt like the F4's Grimm at all. They should have done a full stone body sculpt,
its cheaper :/ also remember greatest american hero?
that figue was never releassed normal, it was some comicon exclusive >: ( whyyyyyyy!!!!

I'd even like a mego style figure of the goofy version of Thor from the Return of the Hulk TV movie. I can understand your disappointment in the old mego Thing figure. probably my favorite Thing figure is the Marvel Legends style one the Horsemen sculpted for the Toybiz Fantastic Four line. The action feature in the shoulders is annoying, though. But it's probably the best Thing sculpt, I think.

That is actually a pretty darn good idea for a Thing figure. It may turn out kind of like the DCUC sdcc Swamp Thing from last year if they did.

the question would be if you can coat a doll body using a mold.
If I had the materials id do it like this,
take a MOTU body, *Zodk cuz hes bald... or a wrestler figure which is better cuz those are cheap.
then Id put the details of the skin on with either cvlay or sculpey
then make a mold of that part, get some liquid latex, dry for a few days BAM new body for the duplicate figure
I did that once making a copy of my friend's finger on latex we got at a costume shop since I estimate thearea is thin then the coating can have more latex aded and be flexible ..er
ok I didnt count on the joints though the head and the rest can be
worked on later >.< ok never mind sorry I ran off like that XD

cool! was that at a convention? oh I found a site having a clearance on startrek megos and the matel line. I still need a mego batman. so I have to pick between Vikor and Batman
btw I asked that awesome artist who does megos
at the club in the 1940's kinda look and he told me
just to use a boysuit and ad the stuff there XD it was
so simple!, sadly it wont solve the issue of the bare chested figures
and figures that would look cool showing muscle using the velvet look and the hair, like werewolf by night should look... a REAL werewolf not that new moon crap or a bare chested one like
Doc Savage. even though Doc Savage can me made simply as the
same as you made this Hulk since his clothes are always ripped,
hand paint it with bronze paint and possibly wood stain for an agesd look and a namor head type hair scult BAM instant Doc Savage

Vikor or Batman... pretty tough choice. Did you mean the reproduction mego Star Trek figures that I think emcc toys did? Thosr are great.

That would be a nice recipe for Doc, you should try it.

:3
yup those, they got em cheap at a blow out at toywiz
also I saw a figure of Doc and I was not pleased.
The arms were too slim and it took away from the amazing sculpt in the head, Doc is beefy. It was still a marvelous figure
I need to get the money asap though. I am hoping this gig allows me to get one of both which is all I can afford, I blew my budget ona new mouse and bondo hardener ( and cough kamen rider miniatures cough).

sadly the gray one had factory defect on the neck also
the small one I had to glue his head with PVC glue si I was upset when I got a broken toy, the helnmets have seethrough plastic so it looks like in the show

That can be a bummer, especially when you get them in the mail and can't easily return them. At least itr was an easy fix.

ArtBennyRGrau In reply to ayelid [2012-03-28 06:33:04 +0000 UTC]

yup
used a proper PVC glue that dries like near glass
I am afraid said glue will become brittle and break
ooooh forgot I could still use bondo wich works better than
sculpey and ist air dry :U
sadly my pvc pipe glue is blue so it ruined hs scarf...
I ordered a second one
