nice thing reminds me a bit on one thunderbird episode / movie were Brains construckt a similar catamarn airship (used s kind of luxus liner ship like Titanic

What about close-in air defense? Would there be other airships flying CAP to protect it or just a massive CAP flying with AWACS?

Simple yet eloquent solution to the whole "airborne carrier". I'm guessing that staying above the attitude that storms and jet stream/truculence are would be must, those are what brought down the first two prototypes of a airship aircraft carrier.
