Description A view of the interior of San Galgano abbey's ruins (south-west of Siena, Tuscany, Italy).

The abbey, built by Cistercian monks during 13th century, is one of the major examples of gothic architecture in Italy.
Its decline began after about two centuries of splendor and the destiny of the building was definitely sealed when the monks sold off the lead roof to raise money.
The Abbey has been consolidated in the last decades; now it is a well-known touristic attraction.

Walking inside the abbey is highly suggestive. At sunset, the sunlight paints its inside with golden colors. At dusk, the deep blue sky looks like an immaterial roof itself, and the silence all around makes you standing there, staring at the walls, thinking, and your thoughts run free.
You can see its birth and decay, monks' life and work, the chants, the battles, the stories of life and death, joy and sorrow those walls silently had been witnessing over time.

Now, can you see the star?

Full view recommended. Thanks for viewing.

thank you for the comment. the black frame is kind of a standard for me. what kind of frame would you choose for this one?

no frame!

no frame... interesting. maybe it's because i've been accustomed to frames since some time now, but it looks to me they really add something to the image. at least, the draw the attention on the picture, just like an underline would do with a written text.

I was a freak by frames before...but I've got to the idea that still a simple frame is something more, and because it's something added to the photo you don't get all your attention just to the photo.

barninga In reply to sleurope [2010-03-09 21:19:12 +0000 UTC]

imho this is true if the frame is not that simple.
if it's really simple and still it distracts from the photograph, then maybe it's photograph's fault.

ahahha, never heard that before!

tell me one thing, all the great photographers, all the great photos you have seen, did it had the frame?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

barninga In reply to sleurope [2010-03-12 09:10:39 +0000 UTC]

some yes, some not.
sincerely, i cannot tell what part is the majority.
however i think you're right in this, that great and famous photographers usually don't frame their photos.
well, i am not a great photographer

I feel that the frames even just a pixel wide are distracting! You're not a great photographer in your head, just don't think about that and some good photos will appear!

well i'm really flattered by your comment... i feel much more ordinary than it looks from your words. unfortunately english is not my own language: often i cannot express what i have in my mind. and i have traveled less than i'd like.
however, thank you sincerely, for the kind words and the :fav:.
