Description This is a commission I did back in 2003 that also became the cover for Radio Comix Furrlough #144. The piece is not offical canon for my universe since in my universe Polar Bears are intelligent and definitely not riding mounts! Although I guess some might not mind the saddle and bridle if Rosemary was involved in the equation, but that's another topic entirely! What the client wanted was my take on the old Rumple minze ads from the 1980's [link] . He also wanted there to be a Monster somewhat similar to an AD&D Remorhaz [link] in the picture to.

This created several interesting design problems since Rosemary is already small compared to the Polar Bear and the monster was about the size of a Allosaurus. Also the client wanted to see as a full figure of both the bear and Rosemary so that set some composition restrictions. Also just like the Remorhaz in AD&D the monster was suppose to be positvely radiating glowing heat and light for its body!

Finally the monster, the polar bear and the landscape were suppose to be white or very pale blue. Not the most exciting of color combos, so I decided to set the piece at sunset so I could use the low arctic light to emphasize the light emitting from the critter by playing the warms and cools off each other. It is from my long torso era of figures, and looking back at it there are several things I'd do different today but it still a nice piece.

The piece is my usually color pencil, mixed media.

This creature picked the wrong Skunk to mess with, that and while the fact it may be radiant light and heat based, the northern biome is probably the worst for it to be in.

Very nice stuff Baron. Might I add that Rose really looks good in those barely-there armor!

Stab it in the eye, quick!

Man, if something like that popped out of the ground in front of me I think I would want something other than a spear to defend myself with. Something large caliber and fully automatic would be nice.

Rosemary looks great like this! I imagine this as a piece of art done by the Frazetta of her universe.

Or from the Boris Vallejo universe, or any a dozen sword and sorcery book covers that filled the shelves of book stores in the 1970's and 80's.

Yeah, I loved the art on those covers. Cheesy as all heck, but it was fun.

Very well done with a limited (and by necessity heavily altered) set of subjects.

Love the lighting and the detailing on the monster, especially the insect eyes. And Rosie, of course!

I was also happy with how I was able to recreate the semi-transparent effect of the snow and steam exploding from the ground.

In my mind I'm picturing a bunch of old Conan book and comic covers. Horrible monster, check. Beautifull background, check. Hot babe wearing very little, check. Looks damn good.

At one point I did a series of sketches showing possible outfits for Rosemary to wear in this commission. The observation that she made was that it seemed that it most of the designs revolved more or less on her wearing less.
