Today's sketch was heavily inspired by Disney's Fantasia-- the original one. I saw it on Netflix and decided to give it a watch and loved it-- especially in the early parts about 17 minutes in, when the seeds, that looked like women in white dresses were falling during the autumn segment. The music during that scene was Waltz of the Flowers, from Nutcracker-- which I love. I first heard it when I watched Princess Tutu years back and have been in love with it ever since.This sketch of course, is more like speed painting. Like the cats, I had trouble painting it, and at times I felt like giving up. But I pushed through >_<Β As an added note, she is the seed of a dandelion. Enjoy! and if you can, check out Fantasia. So nice! I grew up on that movie, and I recognized the inspiration the moment I saw this piece. I always felt that bit of the film was so melancholy, the way the seed dancers settle to the ground at the end of their numberΒ and are covered up by the falling autumn leaves... sad, but lovely too, which your painting captures so well!

Beautiful use of light and colour. The scene is simply so beautiful and delicate; the graceful form of the figure paired with the soft colours of the background really conveys a beautiful feel to the image.
The soft transitions between the greens and blues with the vague but still recognisable forms of leaves are very ambient and reinforce this soft, gentle atmosphere; the soft border of darkness that slowly eases in the scene supports this effect greatly whilst also attracting attention to the focal point of the image; of course, the figure.
The stunningly bright white of the character against the dark colours appears immediately striking and extremely pure; the amount of contrast used is very confronting and distinctly portrays the figure, particularly her flamboyant dress.
The way she seems to emanate and glow light also creates a very angelic mood, as not only is the character the focus in terms of colour, but of light - the surrounding darkness gives the impression that there is no other light source - as if the figure is this one unique angel of light amidst an ocean of shadow.
The direction of the brush strokes on the dress really conveys the sense of a graceful bursting motion to the light, further heightening its influence; not only is the light simply being emitted but it's being spread and burst out into the darkness.
The way the dress softly blends in with the background reinforces this soft sense of release, illuminating the darkness and spreading the heavenly atmosphere.
That beautiful expression of a falling seed works extremely nicely to compliment the figure, as her graceful posture and delicate form very nicely expresses the delicate, angelic mood of the image.
Capturing that serenity in both posture and light is what I think allows the impact of the scene to really become exceptionally beautiful; it's almost as if every element of the background is focused on creating a darkness and every element of the figure is focused on emitting this beautiful light to very much override and spread into the shadows.
Simply beautiful use of light and form; the delicacy and impact of the white is simply gorgeous.
