WORK IN PROGRESS- WIPA friend of mine, here on DA, SKTAF asked what this one meant. She wasn’t the first because a lot of folk thought it kind of creepy that this woman has a Bird Cage for a chest. I like to think of it this way: Women look for that special someone who will make their heart sing-- and while they entertain the opposite sex with sweet love songs and shows of affection, the fear of being hurt, or having known the pain of being hurt, or even the unrealistically high expectations women have set on men have become a cage which locks their heart away from truly accepting and knowing.
The heart is a precious thing; therefore it should be guarded carefully, and not passed around to anyone who will take it, as some do. But, it should not be locked away because of fear, past bad experiences, or high expectations.
I would love to do more with this one—by adding more birds and tightening it up, buuut this is about as far as I’m going to get on it for a while, with all the commissions I have occupying my time. It’s sometimes rare that I have the opportunity to indulge in my own work ^_^. Perhaps you can give me some suggestions for some birds to include in the composition.

This makes me think of my idol Emily Dickinson. She wrote a poem that goes perfectly with this.

When I look at this image [which is beautiful], the song, "Green finch and Linnet bird" from Sweeney Todd plays in the back of my mind. Though utterly unconnected in theme, maybe still appropriate?

Very interesting and captivating work, I love it. I fully agree with your view of the women heart and I think the visual rendering matches perfectly with it.
I can't even think of anything else to suggest, at least as far as concept goes, though in the technical aspect you could change a couple of things here and there. Lovely!

Hum. I thought the painting meant something about freedom. The woman envy's the birds because they can fly away at anytime while she is stuck in whatever situation.
No matter what it's beautiful. I terribly hope I can paint like that one day.
