Description One of the young yearlings was the first to show up in this miserably cold weather ( -1*F/-22*C with a wicked wind) to sample some of the stuff I picked up in the city today for them. Apparently their ears grow to full size before their noses do

Aww, the poor baby! -22°C?? That makes me shiver when I only think about it. Thankfully, we're currently having a break from those temperatures; all the snow has thawed (but we're having bad flooding problems now, like the rest of the world).

That's a very nice and clear capture; how close were you?

at least it has warmed up .... during the night it got down to -29*C. Not super cold for here but still not all that welcome

Oh .... maybe 15 ft away ... the young ones seem to be the tamest. Probably cuz they haven't been shot at yet ...

Minus 20°C??? That sounds horrible! Although I*d like for winter to come back for a week or so, because I really want to capture some more ice crystals with my new macro rings.

ya ... it has been the same temp for weeks now .... rather strange. At least it has been pretty much calm which is unusual for the prairies. And when it gets cold AND windy ..... well .. then it is REALLY miserable. This hasn't been bad really although I'm ready for it to warm up. When I got up this morning it was -23 .... and it is still -23. It's just too cold to take any pictures outside and it besides .... not much to take pics of except the hungry birds and deer that visit

I can relate, cold AND windy is the most horrible weather. We had one day here in December when it was -15°C and really windy, and it just felt miserable.

Since the beginning of the new year, however, we've had milder temperatures and all the snow and ice have disappeared. I can't complain.

after 54 years a person just gets used to it I guess

either that or just too dumb to know any better

Katzilla13 In reply to Behrfeet [2011-01-21 10:34:19 +0000 UTC]

LOL! I suppose if you *really* did mind the cold, you would have moved further south decades ago.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Behrfeet In reply to Katzilla13 [2011-01-21 12:17:32 +0000 UTC]

for me it's a no brainer .... I've driven a truck ALL over the south .... for 30+ years. I've seen what it is like with all those people wanting to cling to the warmth. For me it's not even a close call .... I'll put up with the cold for a couple of months a year thank you very much

In fact ..... it's even better in the winter now. I moved out here in 1981 and for the first 5 years I was the only person living here year round so it was super quiet all winter long. And that offset all the chaos during the summer with everyone racing around out on the lake. Slowly everyone started to think it was a good idea to live here year round and it really started to annoy me cuz every time I turned around there was a person standing there .... arrrrrrgggggghhhhh! But now most of them leave for a least a month ... sometimes two months .... and go down by the Mexican border and leave me alone with all the animals .... even better!

Oh my.... but isn't it a bit lonely sometimes? And did you have your appendix removed before moving into the wilderness, just in case?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Behrfeet In reply to Katzilla13 [2011-01-26 20:02:33 +0000 UTC]

nope .... never. The only time I am ever lonely is when I am in a huge city and surround by so many people and yet I am by myself. Now THAT is a lonely feeling! In my opinion "loneliness" is not created by physical distance

Katzilla13 In reply to Behrfeet [2011-01-26 20:20:24 +0000 UTC]

That's very true. It's a state of mind. I'm often *alone*, but I'm rarely *lonely*.

thanks .... this little guys are soooooo cute. I was hoping to get a shot of them this summer when they were really tiny but never saw them. My neighbours down the way said they were in their yard a few times but I never saw them here

I've only ever seen a fawn once .... and that was rescue it when it was stuck in a sheep fence. It was soooooo tiny! I picked it up and carried across the road as it's mother anxiously paced back and forth watching. I laid it down in some bushes and quietly left. The mother was still not that far away so I just assume they found each other
