I couldn't love this shot more! The clarity of expression on the deer in the forefront is terrific, and the background deer adds so much interest to the photo. Both of them in the shot gives us great insight into how comfortable these wild animals are around you to let you get such a close shot. Great job!

Behrfeet In reply to Emmk1970 [2011-03-07 16:51:23 +0000 UTC]

thanks Maurina .... very much appreciated :]

Especially with what happened. Did you read the comment below about how that same group rejected this one too? There's two by the way .... one with the actual rejection and another after I left the group. I'm not wasting any more energy on those people

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Emmk1970 In reply to Behrfeet [2011-03-08 04:31:09 +0000 UTC]

I just read them now...give me a minute while I pick my jaw up off the floor. I totally agree with what Katja said. These are ACTUAL wild animals in their own habitat...not behind some park fence.

Good on you for leaving the group...you will be well rid of them. I think your shots are wonderful and according to everyone else here, I'm not the only one! Keep doing what you do. Challenge yourself how you see fit, and get the shot YOU want...everyone else be damned!

Great work!

Oh wow, now they're really posing for you, aren't they? It's amazing considered they're wildlife and not in a wildpark! Great shot with the one looking over the first' ears.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Behrfeet In reply to Katzilla13 [2011-03-06 21:29:55 +0000 UTC]

LOL ... thanks ... but although they look like they are posing it's more like they are keeping a close eye on me to see if it is time for some FOOD!

I appreciate the comment ..... especially after I got this response to the shot .....

"Hello. After review, we are sorry to decline your photo. Although the focus on the eyes of the front deer and the depth of field are nicely done, we are not comfortable with the very tight cropping cutting too much of the 2 heads in our opinion.
We encourage you to continue submitting your work to the group !"

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Katzilla13 In reply to Behrfeet [2011-03-07 09:11:01 +0000 UTC]

What's their problem? I mean really? This is not a wildpark picture! Do they know how hard it is to get such incredible wildlife shots? Damn, this really makes me angry! If you were any better, you'd be posting your stuff in the National Geographic magazines instead of DA. What do they want???

Well, just so you know: I like this shot!!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Behrfeet In reply to Katzilla13 [2011-03-07 16:41:47 +0000 UTC]

thanks Katja! ..... I appreciate the support. This was the same group that had the issue with the deer behind the tree. This was the final straw ... I left the group and pulled the few pictures that they did accept. They CLAIM it is about image quality but in the reason they gave they said the quality was good. What they REALLY mean is they have a VERY NARROW view of creativity and any deviation from that is unacceptable. It just seems very elitist and I want no part of that. I want to foster creativity ... encourage thinking outside of the box not stifle it. They claim it is to help photographers to improve. That's bull ... they just want them to conform. But I am not going to waste any more energy on them. Instead I will continue to encourage others to do well and be creative and different ... especially the young photographers. :]

Here's their comment I got after I left ....

"Hello,

Sorry to see you go. It is no secret that we aim to keep image quality high in this group, so we end up declining a lot of images. It is our firm belief that honest feedback is best in the long term, as it helps us improve our skills. We try our best to provide helpful feedback to our members and hope that all of us learn something in the process. As always, it is only our opinion and shared with you in good faith and with good intentions.

We do understand leaving any group is your decision entirely and we respect that. We hope that you will come back some day, until then we wish you luck and keep shooting. "

Tsss tsss... this is an amateur site, not National Geographic! Really, leaving them was the best possible decision. If they want perfect pictures only in their group, they should turn to Jim Brandenburg... but perhaps, not even he could meet their standards!

Morning..

Back yard?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Behrfeet In reply to gutheory [2011-03-05 10:09:11 +0000 UTC]

hey! .... nope ..... front yard .... I really can't see out behind so they only time I see them back there is when I go out to the wood pile every day to fill the wood box out front. They don't seem to want to be back there anyway cuz that is where the road is although there is some fairly thick brush to the west of my property that they will bed down in when it is windy. If they hang out in the yard and sleep it is usually on the east side where they are sheltered from the prevailing winds here and still get the most sun

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

gutheory In reply to Behrfeet [2011-03-05 20:47:49 +0000 UTC]

In your front yard? You could sell tickets...lol

At least they feel safe there. Which is a good thing.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Behrfeet In reply to gutheory [2011-03-06 19:52:49 +0000 UTC]

lol .... yup .... they are pretty relaxed most days ..... when I go out on to the front deck to bbq and Wilbur is standing close by he doesn't even react now ..... just stands there and watches me ... it's pretty comical!

I was out feeding them last week and an ice fisherman (about 200 yds away) commented on them being so tame .... they do like the lake being there so they can beat a hasty retreat to it if needed ...... [link] .... although it doesn't exactly look like that right now! The ice is like 2.5 to 3 ft thick at the moment

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

gutheory In reply to Behrfeet [2011-03-06 21:48:25 +0000 UTC]

That isn't a front yard. It's bl**dy "Loch Ness!" lol

That would be good to see with Wilber..

I would love to but no .... they seem really relaxed at times but then suddenly one will spook and EVERYONE will jump and panic! Understandable I guess when other animals are always wanting to have you for dinner!
