This is the same deer that stayed laying down as I walked by. At the time I thought it was a doe but now I see he has some little nubbins on his head so apparently he is a little buck. In the early spring he was missing a big strip of hair down the back of his neck and so I dubbed him (her at the time) "Scruffy". Although he is looking pretty shaggy as he loses his winter coat, he is looking MUCH better than a month ago. And for sure he does recognize me. The evening I shot this he trotted right up to check me out and actually got within 25 ft (7.4m) of me ... stared at me a bit ... then trotted off.Related content

Watch out for those ticks, I missed a tiny one and it gave me Lyme disease and a couple of other really unpleasant diseases at the same time. Worst 8 days I ever had... I still have a bit of paralysis from the Bell's palsy it triggered.... It's worth it, to use a repellent.

Ticks are miserable but luckily it seems we don't have any Lyme here .... at least not yet anyway. I still wear repellent just the same. I've heard it is pretty bad and that it lingers which is probably the worst part eh?

It's not just Lyme. The same ticks carry other diseases too which are pretty nasty. I'm pretty sure I had more than just Lyme based on the symptoms I had. I wasn't diagnosed until I was almost well so I never got a confirmation on the others. But it was truly awful for a time, and you're right, the problems do linger. I'll probably always have them...
You had talked about picking off ticks so I thought you didn't use any repellent. Maybe you should refresh it along the way? I always carry some and make sure I check for the tiny ones once I get home. Though I did get Lyme again... Got antibiotics quickly that time so it wasn't bad. Fingers crossed for this year!

I had it on me but that time I hadn't sprayed my clothes ... now I am spraying the clothes more and it definitely helps. It is getting nasty and with all this Global Climate Change it is gonna get worse I'm afraid!

thanks ... it was so neat how he walked up .... even closer than in this shot! I should have taken a picture of the back of his neck when he was still coming around the yard .... it was kind of gross looking ..... good to see it is finally filling back in again.

I haven't seen him in a couple days now .... but heading up this evening so maybe he's wandered back into the area again. The skeeters are HORRIBLE behind here cuz of the deep grass from all the rain we've had so maybe they are up on top on the farmland where there would be fewer bugs. They were biting the crap out of his ears the evening I shot this one

ya well .... I might not be seeing them a whole lot till fall maybe ... the skeeters drive me fricken nuts plus just about every time I walk around up there I come home with 7 or 8 ticks on me .... just ON though .. not dug in. If it wasn't for that I would love to just go and walk around up there but that just takes a lot the pleasure out of it

oh cool .... you have a summer place? Is it on the water? I've never understood why but right near the water where my place is the skeeters aren't too bad. And if the fish flies are around we don't have any next to the water. But go across the road and into the hills and like you say ... they will eat you alive!

Yea we do, it's one of my favourite places to be, and we have a lake there too, a piece of the beach is on our property, but it's pretty dirty... But I guess it wouldnn't be to many people since Finnish lakes are very clear and unpolluted. And the bugs don't bother when you're right on the edge of the lake but our land is pretty big and we have a wetland there too and that's were they come in massses
