Description Trial by combat (also wager of battle, trial by battle or judicial duel) was a method of Germanic law to settle accusations in the absence of witnesses or a confession, in which two parties in dispute fought in single combat; the winner of the fight was proclaimed to be right. In essence, it is a judicially-sanctioned duel. It remained in use throughout the European Middle Ages and gradually disappeared in the 16th century.

Inspired by a german 14th century copper plate.

That's amazing. The beautiful detailing in this just astounds me. May I ask what sort of mediums you used to illustrate this? Whatever it may be, it looks very wonderful. You truly have amazing talent. Your artwork is very inspirational.

Very, very nice attention to the details. How did you do the background? Did you paint it or use blue paper?
Another amazing piece.

Wicked! A bit busy, would be nice if things were spread out a bit, but then again, that's the style of back then. Can we get some detail scan?

I don't think the clergy would bless a trial by combat... Didn't Innocent III try to ban it?
