Background: Rarity and Applejack were a couple for two years before their relationship exploded. When the two were doing well in their relationship, no two ponies could be more in love. They gave each other gifts, surprise vacations, smooched a lot in public, and seemed to float on air. However whenever the two fought, it was like war. The mane six often got pulled onto different sides, and it was nasty until the conflict was resolved. Two years into their relationship, Applejack realized that she couldn't do this anymore. She didn't see her and Rarity working out, and despite still loving the unicorn, decided to break up.
It was a relief for their friend group, but not to Rarity. She took the perceived rejection hard, drawing away from her friends to wallow, eventually even moving to Canterlot. She was determined to make it on her own, to carve her own path in life.
Life interrupted her plans when she figured out she was pregnant. She took a good look at options available to her, but eventually decided to keep the baby. She could raise Applejack's kid, she was competent! She practically raised her little sister, this would be easy street!
It was not easy street.
Diamond Treasure was born late and was a very screamy baby, a omen for the future. Diamond Treasure was a inquisitive and sensitive foal, who discovered her cutie mark gardening and identify flowers for asthetic purposes when wandering around the royal gardens.Rarity and Diamond often hung out and spent a lot of quality time together and were very close, but Diamond got the feeling that Rarity was hiding something from her. She did a bit of digging at twelve years old and eventually managed to sleuth that her other biological parent was Applejack and her mother had once been some type of war hero who fought terrorists with friendship (???) and was completely outraged. Her relationship with Rarity became fraught with arguments and misunderstandings, with Diamond frequently staying over at friends houses in order to avoid Rarity.
By the time Diamond got into college, it was a welcome relief. The two needed separation, and Diamond Treasure needed more friends. She began working at a flower shop as a florist, and seemed to calm down a bit with age. While she and Rarity still definitely have unresolved issues, they can be in a room together again.
Diamond Treasure has made no effort to interact with her half siblings, though she's desperately curious about them.
