So! Rarity has hard kind of a hard time in my AU, lol.
Applejack and Rarity were a couple when they were in their twenties, in a relationship that lasted two years before it's inevitable destruction. Rarity and Apple were very...passionate, but not very good at conflict resolution. They often got into arguments, would 'break up' only to quickly get back together, and caused a lot of headaches for the other mane six who had to deal with all their crap. In the end, it was Applejack who realized they were not the best for each other and broke the relationship off, even though she still deeply loved rarity. Rarity was devastated and betrayed, and sort of withdrew from the mane six because of this. In fact, Rares straight up moved to Canterlot in order to distance herself, and also for business opportunities.
Rarity was ready to begin her new life! Unfortunately for her plans, she discovered she was pregnant with Applejacks child. She considered abortion, but ultimately kind of actually wanted a kid...so she decided not to tell Applejack or any of her friends and raise a kid without a support network! Great idea Rarity.
Diamond Treasure was a bit of a disaster child. She found out about her other mother and the fact that Rarity was some type of war hero/magical girl in her youth(??) when she was twelve, and that kind of began her rebellious stage. As a shy but thoughtful child, Diamond Treasure grew up to be a angry, moody, dramatic teenager. Rarity did her best to be a good mom, but Diamond had issues to work through, a lot of which she put on her ma.
She eventually got better as she went to college and made more friends. She dyed her hair black and got some piercings and generally became more grumpy than actively explosive. Rarity and her are doing a lot better now. Diamond works at a flower shop as a florist, which is her passion.
