Description I thought about drawing Rogue and Gambit, but that little voice in my head was all, "You know you really want her with Magneto..." And then the Cajun in me was yelling, "WTF is wrong with you?! Gambit is your people!" So... here we are.

Oh, and this has nothing to do with the films, but I really couldn't help but use Michael Fassbender as a reference for Magneto. Also, don't get all on me about Magneto's age. Back when I was still reading they de-aged him considerably. The nerd in me knows these things.

I referenced the pose from a Vampire Diaries photo, as I'm lousy with anatomy.

Tools: brown envelope, graphite, colored pencil

Dear God, for me this is, like, ultimate Vampire Diaries X Roguey goodness.  I mean, I look at this and it is literally impossible for me to seperate the two for me.  And I wouldn't want to, it's amazing.

I am pleasantly surprised you didn't use Anna Paquin as reference. XD

Wait, wasn't paying attention to the Wolverine movie (because the only good thing that came out of it for me was Daniel Henney ... as much as I love Hugh Jackman, I've always found Wolverine such a douche), who played Gambit there?

BloodyVoodoo In reply to ligaya [2012-10-20 06:09:47 +0000 UTC]

Nothing against Paquin, but she wasn't right for Rogue at all. That Wolverine film was stupid as hell. The only thing worth a damn was Liev Schreiber, IMO. Gambit was Taylor Kitsch and he sucked.

The contrast between the two men is quite nice. There is white on one side, brown on the other, and both in the middle. Makes it look really nice. XD

You have drawn my favorite pairing/threeing? And you have drawn it incredibly well. The expressions in each face say the same thing, but in different ways. There is so much texture going on. And I love how the two men (lovely gorgeous delicious men) look like they fade into the background. And I think you NAILED the anatomy, the faces are superb and the hands are realistic. :3
Awesome, bravo and thank you! <3

Thanks so much for the thoughtful comment! I must admit that fading them into the background was more out of laziness and not wanting to do their costumes.

Well your laziness paid off in a good way! And I've always been a fan of not just saying that I like something, but why I like something. I dunno, maybe its all my years in art classes and helping with critiques, but I'd rather say more than "OMG AWSUM LUV IT! YAY!" XD

Oh snap! I didnt say it but fantastic drawing. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Remy in this. Older, wiser, and just a hint of a smile. I think his eyes are the most amazing I've ever seen them drawn, I'm just encompassed by them. I feel like coloring this for some reason.

Thank you very much! I'm not a fan of Gambit being too young. Jim Lee's drawings never looked a day under 30 as far as I'm concerned. I like him scruffy and a bit aged, as opposed to pretty and youthful.

maliceshaw In reply to BloodyVoodoo [2011-08-11 05:40:45 +0000 UTC]

I actually loved Jim Lee's artwork! I even have a personalized photo he drew of Wolverine for me. I think one of my favorite artists was Andy Kubert, but Michael Choi did so amazing in X-Men #204, I drooled. Who did you use for Gambit? He looks so perfect its a shame you don't draw the XBooks!

BloodyVoodoo In reply to maliceshaw [2011-08-11 06:34:09 +0000 UTC]

I'm not sure if you took my comment about Jim Lee wrong, but I meant that his Gambit is THE Gambit as far as I'm concerned. That's awesome that you have a drawing from him! I would die.

He's sort of a mix of Jim Caviezel and Josh Holloway. And thanks again! I'm flattered!

maliceshaw In reply to BloodyVoodoo [2011-08-11 16:47:40 +0000 UTC]

Oh no, I have to agree Jim Lee's Gambit is FANTASTIC. I"m going to Blizzcon again this year (where I got my last picture from him) and I'm hoping i can have him draw me a Gambit and Rogue this time.
I'm just stil draw to Gambit's eyes - they just look so natural and 'normal' as it were. This is a fantastic drawing! What medium did you use?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

BloodyVoodoo In reply to maliceshaw [2011-08-14 06:53:35 +0000 UTC]

Oh, a Rogue/Gambit drawing would be fantastic! It's just graphite and a white colored pencil. I had to resist the urge to color his eyes red because I was afraid it would draw too much attention on him, and the other two would be lacking. Red looks good on that brown paper, though. Thanks again!

I have always loved this picture, but I never fully understood the whole Magneto thing. I've recently gotten into the Legacy comics and now I totally get it! I agree, there's something about Magneto being with Rogue that is ridiculously desirable... But at the same time I always imagine Remy as like, her soul mate. It's really weird how torn I am between the two! Anyways, I wanted to tell you I freaking love this picture. I love how realistic all they're faces are and how Remy's eyes are really well done. Also, you gave Magneto a sorta... George Clooney kinda aged look, which I freaking LOVE rather than going all old man. Made it a lot more appealing.

Rogue's face is SO well done. Her eyes are simply incredible, and I love your use of colour, or "lack of." Haha, I guess what I'm getting to is how much I love the way you draw Rogue and I wish you'd do more!!! You're an incredible artist, great work.

BloodyVoodoo In reply to SmythPhotography [2011-07-12 07:33:35 +0000 UTC]

Oh, wow! Thank so much for the thoughtful comment! I was reading comics way back in the early 90s when Magneto and Rogue first showed romantic interest in each other, and I've been obsessed with the pairing ever since. But like you, I'm a big Remy fan, and I love her with him as well (though they did get a litte too angsty for my liking after a while).

The thing about Magneto is that his body is supposed to be that of a late 30s/early 40s-something. The story behind that is weird. Something about being de-aged to an infant, then aged to his prime. This happened, like, in the 70s. You have to consider what age characters like Cyclops are supposed to be right now. He can't be over 40. So, it reasons that Magneto wouldn't be either. When artists draw him really old looking, they screwed up. Shame on them for not looking into the character's backstory.

Glad you like their faces! My inspiration for Rogue was Yvonne Strahovski and Emily Blunt.

Nice choice for the girls to base Rogue off of! Thank you thank you thank you for not choosing Anna Paquin. She doesn't give Rogue's 'flare' justice, y'know?

Rogue and Remy has been a little angsty lately. It's rather irritating on some level, getting a bit high school for me. I don't know, I just love what he says to her in a recent comic. "I'm your home and your harbor. Your end point. Not a station along the way. Not a gamble or an experiment. You'll come to me when you know that. But don't come to me before. Which means, for now, don't come to me at all."

I thought it was just really sweet.

BloodyVoodoo In reply to SmythPhotography [2011-07-13 07:00:42 +0000 UTC]

I totally agree! Nothing against Paquin, but she was all wrong in the role. The writers are also to blame for making her so bland. Iceman was wretched too... yeesh.

I just read that issue the other day! I picked up a bunch of Legacy back issues after I found out the Magneto/Rogue thing was really happening. Great line from Remy. It's about time he told her as much.

SmythPhotography In reply to BloodyVoodoo [2011-07-13 17:00:45 +0000 UTC]

Such a good issue! And yeah I don't have anything against her either, I'm sure she and what's his name as Bobby could have been a little less bland if Bryan Singer had actually tried to pull some character out of them, but hey. He chose to ignore Rogue's fiestyness and it's too late now. And why the SHIT is Remy in Wolverine Origins rather than X-men 1-3 with ROGUE???? ERG. Timeline got all screwed up because of Wolverine Origins... BLAH.

HOLY CRAP GO SEE IT IMMEDIATELY!!!! It was so well done. Michael Fassbender... rocks my world. The first actor I have ever admired so much. What he did to Magneto was incredible. He really understood what it was to have a mutant power... Brilliant. Really. The younger boy who played him was more disappointing, but whatever.
