Description Periarchs are a distant relative to the chrysanth fenseine  which have turned their anal scales into photosynthetic/auditory organs. During the bright hours, they extend their anal rods and unfurl their petals, each iridescent and laced with mutualistic cyanobacteria. Their anal rods are supported by calcitic amalgamations of ocelli, which form long exoskeletal 'eye rods'.

During the dim hours, periarchs will close their anal flowers and retract their rods. This is then locked in place by a set of spines which fill up with coelomic fluid. These retracted rods act as a supportive base of attatchment for their tube feet, which they use to strain caligoplankton for essential nutrients.

This post is an exercise in speculative evolution about an alien space station populated by monstrocities decended from Middle Devonian creatures.
