Description
Helmspurs are a group of active-filterfeeding terrestrial stylophorans which derive nutrients from the everpresent fog. They drag themselves from burrows into the open in the foggloam period following the daily thunderstorm; this is as the storm causes circulation, bringing caligoplankton from the top of the fog to the bottom.

Banshee helmspurs screech using their vocal slits when predators approach while simultaneously releasing a bacterial symbiont in aerosol form. The resulting glowing purple mist combined with the loud sound is usually enough to scare away predators or at least disorient them enough for the banshee helmspur to make its daring escape.

Banshee helmspurs, despite their screeching capabilities, use stridulation instead in sexual display.
