Description Relative of the banshee helmspur which has found new success as a luring ambush predator. It secretes sweet smelling chemicals at the lower opening of its pseudooesophagus to attract smaller, less fortunate animals. Once those animals go far enough into the trap, they close their paired claws, derived from crawling limbs. From there a series of tube feet subdue the prey and drag it further into the pseudooesophagus to be melted alive with the help of digestive enzymes.

The animal soon about to die is a stylopede, a distant relative of the beartrap helmspur who diverged from eachother almost 300 million years ago. This species usually uses its anus which migrated to the front of the calyx to defend itself by spraying foul smelling chemicals. This defense will do them no good against the helmspur.

This post is an exercise in speculative evolution about an alien space station populated by monstrocities decended from Middle Devonian creatures.
