Description
One of many in my State Series.In which I try to personify all the original 13 colonies (and some of the others, too!)
VERY loosely based on Hetalia canon, but it's not like the concept is even orginal to Hetalia anyway. So I am not going to call this fanart.
She was actually one of the first states I designed (3-4 months ago), but I never got around to coloring her until Anderson Cooper inspired me (Oh AC, marry me; I don't even care if you're gay). Hence why the proportions are a bit wonky.
Ah, Louisiana. She sometimes seems like God's Cosmic Plaything, but nevertheless, she always tries to be the life of the party. If everyone else is having fun around her, it makes her forget her troubles for awhile.
Along with Louisiana Creoles, the Cajun ethnic group has made an incredible contribution to Louisiana's culture, and I think their story is especially interesting. (hence why I included a few references in her character design). It all started with settlers from France moving to Maritime Canada (Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island) and forming the cultural region of Acadia. When the British defeat of the French in Canada came in the 1750's, the Acadians were kicked out of Canada and were forced to go south-- all the way to still-French Louisiana. Today there are over 400,000 "Cajuns" living in southern Louisiana.
I admit I am playing up the "It's Always Mardi Gras in New Orleans" stereotype relentlessly here.
But who doesn't love Mardi Gras?P.S. The submission date is completely coincidental.

As a resident of Louisiana since I was 3-4 years old, I like this, but you forgot a few details.
We have a ton of festivals. We celebrate Octoberfest, even though we don't have a large amount of German people in Louisiana. The reason we celebrate so many festivals, is, and this was said by my mom, so we would have more reasons to eat, dance, and get drunk.
We also have Germans, Irish(we have a whole Saint Patrick's Day Parade), Italians(mainly Southern Italians because Spain owned Louisiana at the same time it owned Southern Italy), Russians, Ukrainians, Greeks, Vietnamese, maybe some Prussians, and few Scandinavian/Nordic people, mainly Danish people(they, along with the Germans, brought us beer).
We love football. While they say that baseball is America's favorite past-time, it's not true in Louisiana(and the rest of the Southern states). Football season is a serious topic in this state. But, we are nice to fans of other teams when they come here because their team is playing against us in our Super Dome, except if they're fans of the Atlanta Falcons. They're the rivals of our football team, the New Orleans Saints.
We also have a lot of weird and/or fun, annual activities, events, and festivals down here. We have a Running of the "Bulls"(the bulls are really just people on Roller skates with fake bull horns attached to their helmets), Mechacon(it's what people who will never go to ComicCon still have), and the last, but not least, one that I will mention is.... The Naked Bike Race. I kid you not, there is an annual bike race through the French Quarter where all the racers are butt naked(well, they might wear something on the lower part of their bodies like underwear to prevent them from chafing). And, it's average people, not good looking people.

I'm happy to see my homestate as a Hetalia character! Just thought I'd mention that her last name should be spelled "Melancon" as it's French (at least, I've never seen it spelled with an S). I hope you get to see Louisiana one day! Full of friendly people and the best food (sounds cliche, but for real, you will LOVE the food).
Did you know in Louisiana, there's a festival for every day of the year? My personal favorites are the Strawberry Festival and the Boudin Festival!

This is great! I was born and raised in Louisiana and I think you did a wonderful job on this! I'm not so into all of the BLONDE-HAIRED Louisianas everyone's making. I-it just doesn't fit at ALL what people here actually look like... Alot of us have dark hair.

Heh...actually I wasn't really thinking about The Princess and the Frog but I think Disney's Evangeline was inspired by the same source.
There's a famous poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow called Evangeline which is about an Acadian girl forced from her homeland and separated from her true love. It's one of the most famous works of literature about the Acadian culture (which is really prominent in Louisiana), and in some contexts, the character of Evangeline has been used to personify all of Acadia.
So yeah...that's my English teacher explanation. haha.

It's called Honey Bee by some country dude. I remember one of my brothers friends was listening to it and I heard the MS and LA part and freaked a bit. But then I heard it on the radio again in the car, and then was like "OMGINEEDTOKNOWTHENAMEOFTHISSONG" and my mom used her phone to find it. We just caught the last part of the song XD
