Description Considering that she's made quite a few appearances already, it's about time I made a profile for Illinois.

-Hell yeah she has a Polish name. If any state would, it's the state that celebrates Casimir Pulaski day religiously.
-She's been wearing her hair short even since the 1920s. It's very thick and curly and so she always hated having to deal with it. When the flapper era/her glory days came along, it was quite a relief to cut it all off!
-Blue eyes= blue Lake Michigan (you should be noticing a pattern here.)
-She's wearing her favorite scarf and coat because more often than not, she's going to need them. (When I spent my first winter in Illinois I was DEFINITELY not prepared for all the snow, ice, and general bitter cold. Mary does not like Illinois winters. At all.)
-She's kind of a party girl. Kind of. She definitely can't beat Wisconsin in a drinking contest (no one can), but she can still drink some of the best under the table.
-Speaking of Wisconsin, she may or may not have a crush on him. She'll never tell you conclusively, anyway.
-Even though she's really smart, she can seem sort of ditzy sometimes. She gets easily distracted by shiny/flashy and interesting things.
-Have you ever heard of Cahokia, Illinois? Well you ought to have. It was once the site of the largest Native American city north of Mexico and the center of the Central Plains Moundbuiider culture. At its peak, it had over 15,000 residents. That may not seem like a lot today, but consider the fact that, during the same time period, it was not much smaller than Bristol, England's second-largest city!

I'll add more info later. It's 3 a.m. here.

Haha, just my term for states that joined the union after the original 13. It's nothing technical/historic at all, I promise.

if you make a michigan pleas consult e for details on on michigan culture

there is much more to michigan than drunk lake people and faygo

Don't worry, I will consult your Michiganian wisdom.

I thought Faygo was a Pennsylvania thing. lol. Am I getting my stereotypes muddled? Noooooo.

no faygo is produced in michigan, and was sold in michigan exclusively for a long time

michigan people put way to much emphasis on buying locally, mostly because the world wide economic collapse has spread outward from this state D:

so thus faygo is found at every barbecue, and family gathering of any type

also michigan people have given up cancelling barbecues because of weather

we will just stand out there in the rain flipping burgers, or at least it seems that way

Ah. Thanks for the info. I've never actually had Faygo. For shame.

What else should I know about Michigan?

The things I associate with Michigan the most are Detroit (and thus, cars, industry, and recently, the lack thereof), camping by Lake Michigan, Mackinac Island, and Frankenmuth (that strange, strange town.) Please stop me.

ive only been to frankenmuth once, the people there were way to happy.

WE have a cheesseburger festival here, and fishing is really really really big

We love fishing, its one of hte few connecting aspects of the yoopers and da trolls

lower penninsula people are called trolls because we live under the bridge. And yoopers are called yoopers, because they live in the upper penninsula, aka the yoop

Industry used to be big in the autmotive industry, and we are still trying.

But for fun its fishing, hockey, beer, and really bad barbecue (really bad)

we have a sort of pleasant rivalry with the upper penninsula because it is so different

but we appreciate each others exsistence

plus we won the up after winning a war

yes, we won a war against OHIO

a pig died, and we got the upper penninsula out of it (this is not a joke) [link]

we are also a little bit fat

if i had to imagine a guy from michigan, I would imagine him in a red wings jersey, sitting on a boat with a six pack of faygo (we have no favorite beer, its just beer in general) fishing

with his idiot, much thinner little brother (yoop) with him

michigan, is very much two states glued together

but like chocolate on a hot day they have melted together slighty (WHT AM I SAYING)

it has created this internal tourism thing, while I am sure people cross their states all the time to go somewhere

when a troll enters teh yoop, or a yooper enter the land of trolls its very much like stepping into a different world

but we both like being outside (despite the near constant overcast D and we both like fishing (possibly to to our proximity to the great lakes)

oh also detroit is the murder capital of the country I think

crime is a problem here, and we arent very social towards people outside of our own family

and we have a bit of a problem with the redneck to gangsta ratio we get a bit more of each in this state (not as many rednecks as in others)

you see when you get to many hateful rednecks, and hateful black people together in one spot

well . . . . there are problems and some cities end up very violent and degraded

but tolerance and acceptance is on the fast track here

there is so much to michigan, I just dont know what else to say

its like if you squeezed the midwest and canada together with a light glaze of new york and Maine (real states not the characters)

I also get the feeling we are very care free, I mean most of us are content to be industrial workers (IM NOT) we have a tendency to not shoot for the moon.

we are happy to be drunken (I dont drink) idiots trying to catch fish from a lake with higher mercury content than water

and we have really bad roads

I MEAN REALLY BAD

DEAR GOD THE ROADS ARE CRAP

bumb bumbp bump

we have two thigns here, a michigan line, and michigan roads.

for some reason lines in stores are messes, and roads are disasters

the second you get into ohio its MUSIC TO YOUR EARS

ohio seems to pride itself on being better than michigan, but we dont care. HE is like the over achieving cousin (there are a kajillion astronauts from ohio

here is the nasa page apologizing for it

[link]

)

gah . . . I think my state is horribly messed up

oh and htere are three seperate definitions to NORTHERN MICHIGAN

the thumb area, the mit area, and the yoop

michigan people are dumb like that

Haha thank you so so much for the info.

I'm sort of intimidated now. I don't think I'm up to this challenge.

Ohio's disproportionate number of astronauts cracks me up. It's like, how bad must Ohio be if all their people want to get as far away as they possibly can?

Ralokone In reply to boscaresque [2011-04-03 18:58:49 +0000 UTC]

ive been to ohio, its like a paradise

dont be intimidated by michigan, michigan has alot of spirit

but I dont think michigan can be summed up as one person

If I had to describe michigan as people, it would be an older brother and a younger brother

I LOVE her! Illinois is not one of my favorite midwest states, but thats most likely because my Indiana and Illinois are rivals in sports allot lol

boscaresque In reply to mdorman [2011-04-03 16:06:01 +0000 UTC]

Thank you!

It's true. Illinois (as in UIllinois) has a pretty intense rivalry with Indiana. But not as much as we have with Michigan. I don't know if Michigan reciprocates, though. I like to call it our unrequited rivalry. I think they only care about Ohio.
