Description
This is one of the ships from my Star Wars Fanfiction Series: Star Wars: The Shadow Wars. The series is currently between "Seasons."Note: The information below is from my own universe which is a blend of old and new canon and it not to be considered canon in any other universe but mine. I should also mention that this ship is canon but its history is significantly different as far as my universe is concerned.

The Nebula Class is among one of the first new ships designed and deployed by the New Republic since its formation in 5 ABY. It was designed as part of the New Republic's New Class Modernization Program. These "pocket Star Destroyers" are highly formidable warships, capable of taking down an Imperial-II Star Destroyer in a one-on-one battle. Production of the Nebula Class ships has been slow as they are competing head-to-head with the Rendili StarDrive manufactured Republic Class Star Destroyer. This has changed however with the outbreak of the Shadow Wars as both Nebula and Republic class vessels have entered a more accelerated rate of production.
Nebulas are rarely seen on the front lines though, the majority of them being held back to protect the core worlds such as Coruscant. Most of them are officially under the First Fleet, specifically being a part of Lusankya Group under the command of Grand General Galen Marek. Two Nebulas however are part of Grey Group, under the joint commands of Admiral Jinn Toba and Jedi Knight Jaina Solo. Grey Group is the only Republic Fleet Group made up entirely of New Class Modernization Program Starships (Not including starfighters)

Well consider that one Nebula is a fraction of the size of an Imperial-II and can take one down singlehandedly head-to-head, plus require fewer crew. Tactically the Republic needs the bulk of their forces on the front lines so having powerful ships that require fewer crewmembers on the back is a strategic decision for the time being until they can get more ships off the assembly line. I did mention above that they've entered an accelerated rate of production. So rela~ax, they'll start popping up more and more as more are produced. Same goes for the Republic Class Star Destroyers.
