Description This was actually a fairly quick Zorak sketch/re-design piece I did for a sketch challenge. I wanted to play with a little bit of foreshortening, and to also play with colors, trying to use some of the stuff I've been practicing with my digital work. I'm also trying to really increase my speed. This piece actually came together very quickly.

I've got a whole back-story that actually takes the silly character from the cartoon (from what I gathered from the Wikipedia article), and makes him a much more formidable opponent. I wanted a Warlord kind of feel, something potentially vicious and menacing. I tried to use the colors of the cartoon character’s costume in his cloak/wrap, with the idea that the garment served as a history of his lineage as ruler of his insect people.

I like the ed its like a tribal tat Zorak was always a cool char but I think this pic made him a bad A$$ to me

Me too. Did you ever pick up the comic with Ariel Olivetti art? I really enjoyed it.

HA! Thanks very much. Yeah, I kind of wish the DC comic version of the Space Ghost series would have played a bit more with making Zorak more threatening, but I'd imagine it was a rights issue.

Thanks for the vote, James! I need all the votes I can get these days. Yeah, it didn't look a lot like him--more like a praying mantis, actually, I think. But, to me, that's ok because I think the character is so goofy. I wanted to stay away from that with this one. When I started it I had pulle an all-nighter, and thought I'd just go with whatever I put on the page. Had I been in a different frame of mind, I probably would have gone with something totally different. I just thought it would be fun to flex my concept design muscles.
