Ok. Maaaasive story behind this piece so brace yourselves XD;;

I've had this idea in my head forrr.. 2 months maybe. The problem is I had no idea how to put it to paper. I had many different ideas for composition, framing and posing but none of it wanted to take physical shape. Yet I still liked the idea and decided to toy around with it, hoping SOMETHING would come of it.

Tnen of course my brain goes "Hey wait a minute! Didn't Stan Sakai actually DO a story with a dragon in it at one stage?"
XDDD DOH! Stupid brain! making me subconsciously remember things and then claiming them as original!!

Well, Even though I now had a canon base for the image and couldn't pretend I was being original, this actually turned out to be a good thing because it ended up being what I needed to ground the picture. Later, a piece of fanart of Hatsune Miku (don't laugh) further developed the idea, as did a painting of an actual dragon found somewhere online. Using them all as references I eventually came up with the picture above.

....Then my power chord for my mac blew XD;;
Because I was insanely bored, my buddy Zeph let me borrow his Netbook. I asked him if he had photoshop so I could continue to work on this. he didn't, but he DID has Paint Tool Sai which I'd never used before. I've never used a painting program before, but I decided this would probably be my one chance to try it, so I coloured this using Sai. Of course this meant I had to colour COMPLETELY differently to how I usually do XDD;; so I had no idea what I was doing most of the time.

I got a new power chord and once the colouring was done transported it BACK to photoshop and did some adjustments and viola! 8D

XD;; I nearly killed Zeph's little netbook. This PSD was over 150mb by the time I was done. Even at full size this uploaded picture is only about 20% of the working size. Usagi was drawn on paper, the dragon drawn completely in photoshop. I thought about making the dragon some awesome colour at some stage, but when I realised this actually DOES happen XD;; I decided to let Stan dictate the colours. At first i was a little 8( that the dragon was green, but I'm very happy with the result

The scene takes place in Book 4, which is you haven't read it do yourself a favour. The circumstances of this scene is among my top "most memorable scenes" of the books I've read so far.

I've never drawn a dragon before 8D;; please excuse any MAJOR retardedness and screw-ups! I took some liberties with the design of it...cuz I could. Also I've never used Sai before XD;; so excuse the sloppiness in places. I was teaching myself how to do this as I went.

I'm very happy with it 83
