Great work. I was imagining the "central" appendage as something smaller/shorter but it's sometimes hard to construct a good mental representation when one is speed-reading

I fancy having a crack at an Affronter annd an Idrian at some point soon too,but don't have enough time to read both those books again to gather all the descriptive data I need..

Ha! I know what you mean,but I had to stay faithful to the discription in the book.That was the challenge for me,to try and make it look balanced and as if it could actually function not only as a sentient,tool using species but also as a predator.Weirdly enough,Iain M.Banks seems to have a thing for tripedal alien species..
