Description My dad has a penchant for op-shopping. Perhaps too much so. He's often picking up recipe books for me (almost always cake ones) that I can barely fit in my kitchen. What results is that, more often then not, I flick through them when he gives them to me, like the look of a few things and never remember to come back to it.

So, I set myself a challenge. Once a week I cook a recipe from a cook book I have until I have made it through my entire collection. My only rule is that I have to cook something I have never cooked before, or something I thought was too hard to try, or one of those recipes that I fell in love with but then forgot. I then blog my result, good, bad or ugly.

The first week came from "The Practical Encyclopedia of Potato and Rice" by Alex Barker, Sally Mansfield and Christine Ingham. The recipe is Salmon in Puff Pastry. It's a citrus rice dish, topped with salmon and baked inside a fish-shaped shell of puff pastry. The original recipe is to make one large one, but I opted for single serves instead.

I had no idea what that was and so I Googled it, only to realise that someone else said the same thing to my when I blogged about it and I totally said I wanted to make that -- and that was about 9 months ago. Oops!

It was pretty quick from memory. Especially if you do it as the one 'fish', rather than separate serves. I mainly did it as individual serves cause no one was home at the same time for dinner!

really????? it's a genetic thing for me I think.. my grandmother is deathly allergic to shellfish. I ate lobster when I on a mission trip in Maine and I started breaking out and throwing up... I never connected it with fish until I ate sushi in college with some friends and I started developing a hickey-like rash around my throat and eyes and I was throwing up and I wasn't breathing so well... I got tested and come to find out... BAM seafood no more.

That's really sad. I'm lucky enough not to have any allergies (well, once I woke up with Angelina Jolie lips. That was an allergic reaction to something but no idea what. Perhaps from a spider or insect bite, I'll never know!). I imagine it must be frustrating not being able to eat certain foods.

It is. I love shellfish. and I do eat it rarely and in tiny quantities.... I miss shrimp. Theyre so good.
