Description Every where you look there is something to see... yesterday I was poking around in a pile of firewood on the ground.. in between rain showers, creating a mini 'Haiti' for those that live in and around and a little one came out to see who was shaking things up. He looked at me.. then scanned the area.. I ran for my camera. As soon as I took a shot he turned around and wandered off.. I left the pile lay for today but the wood is sound and ought to be stacked and dried....
These little guys are fearless... maybe it is because they can re-generate a limb? One day I was out walking in the fall last year, I stopped for a set to dream a while and a little movement caught my eye.. Here was a little one just like this one, out for a walk as well, and with it's tiny feet it marched off above the leaves rather than under and actually made a sound in the leaves.

There's something insatiably charming about the little ones, isn't there?

There is! They help keep things in perspective in a world where power is respected most.

I've always loved the little ones, be they scaly, smoothe, with 0, 4, 6 or more legs, you name it.
It's nice to see someone who likes them too

Ah yes.. the ubiquitous samalander.. don't have too many of them in this neck of the woods (dig deep enough, you can scare up a solid black one, every now and then). Have a ton of small lizards, though. Not sure what their clinical names are, but we call them "Blue Tails" and "Browns". Same deal, though. You turn over a rock and you never know what is likely to pop out from under it. Of course the lizards are all around our house in the summer. Catch them sunning themselves in the garage doorway all the time, or hanging around on the side of the house. Every now and then, we'll find one of our resident snakes doing likewise.

Neatest thing we stumbled upon so far was the night we came home and found a small barn owl sitting on top of our (upright) freezer. Too dark to sneak in and get the camera.. sure as hell wasn't gonna turn on the light. Cool memory, none-the-less.

I always keep my eyes open for the little guys of all kinds!
You got lizards? I don't think we have any here.....

All the years I lived in upstate New York, I never saw one, that's for sure. Lots and lots of samalanders, frogs and snakes.. but no lizards. I'll try to see can I snap a picture or two for you. You'd probably get a real kick out of the squirrelly little bastards.

Talked to the wife and she thinks we might probably could already have a shot or two of some of our little buds. If I can get home tonight before too awful late (gotta go by Lowe's and pick up a replacement faucet for the bathroom), I'll have her see if she can find them. I know for sure that we have a shot of one of our resident snakes, for some bizarre reason, stretched out along the front door frame. Gives you a real good idea how long the little shit is, though. (S)he's pretty cool, though. Every summer, (s)he goes behind our freezer to shed. Sort of his/her way of letting us know (s)he's still around. I'd be more definitive about its sex, but we aren't that close.
