The second night on my vacation houseboating on Lake Shuswap in BC, we had a small lightning storm. It only rained for a little bit, and fortunately it was the only day it rained.I took this picture with a Canon Powershot S200 by sitting on the top of the houseboat. Shutter speed was set to 1 full second which is what caused the blurriness (the houseboat was rocking because of the waves). I got it by putting the camera into continuous shooting mode and holding down the shutter until I saw lightning.

That's so awesome! It's so difficult to get a good picture of that and you did! I'd have been freaked out sitting on top of that houseboat. Coming from a lake area myself, we always head for the marina when we start to see a storm building. Very cool work!

how the hell is it possible to get the lightning in a pic! i mean that it happens so fast! really nice pic, some bluury surfaces are ruining this a bit but the lightning is clean and this makes it beautyfull.

Thats so fantastic. The blurred background can totally be forgiven sue to the total amazingness of that lightening! I have tried to photograph lightening and I couldnt do it! I have a funny picture in my head of the storm and rocking about in the wind!

Very cool - I'm a meteorologist and I have yet to get a lightning picture.

the timing is great, but the bluring of the image from movment kill's it.
although i have to say, it's pretty good concidering these things happen without warning.
perhaps you could manipulate the image to bring more focuse on the lightning?
