Description This is what happens when God cheaps out on building materials build the heavens and the damn thing breaks the day the warranty expires gives an all new meaning to the term Daybreak

Alternatively going to be called the less-creative "The sky has fallen" - this was my single entrant into the Luminarium's recent Exhibit titled "Reverie" - which means "Daydreaming" and on my freqent daydreaming ventures, I sometimes have wondered what it would be like if the sky was a physical, tangible object - I'm sure we all beleived that or similar as kids at some stage guess the closest thing I've seen represented well in the media might be The Truman show - but that wasn't on my mind when creating this.

See this and various other good-quality artworks on the Luminariums recent Exhibit Here please remember all that art is copyrighted by their respective artists!

Technical details time! - Once again, as the movie producers often say - "Vue saved me an incredible amount of time when creating this!" Of course, that's not to say it was created in an afternoon, I still had to model the buildings in Cinema 4D, about half the trees used are custom ones and as usual - various things got a Photoshop makeover to make it just look nicer overall, however this is still more 3D than 2D, so the category is correct

All my artwork remains the copyrighted propery of me, please do not use my art in your own projects or websites unless you get pemrission from me

Clever way to use a familiar pun!Β  "Crack of Dawn" is also an accurate title.Β  I wonder what happens if I'm flying an airplane under the falling chunks! Or flying under the hole to space after the fact???

Crack of Dawn sounds like a clever idea Flying a plane under it would be a minefield, and being in space above it might cause some weird things going on with pressure and such

I only just barely read the title before I facepalmed. You should get an award for best lame pun title. But still, it's used to great effect for this one. I'm surprised this slipped under my radar for so long.

I do like punny titles Yeah this was never one of my popular ones. Slipped under a lot of people's radars I bet.

I guess. It's not bad by any means, just unnoticed. Unfortunate, but what can you do when Atlas is slacking on the job?

Heh, this reminds me how, when I was a kid, I thought that if I climbed on a higher block I could touch the sky with my hand. And later how chilly I felt when I saw how thin the layer of air was between us and the void space beyond.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Chromattix In reply to NoBuddy-else [2011-03-03 12:44:11 +0000 UTC]

I had a similar experiment when I was little, just heading down rather than up. I saw a diagram of the Earth's inner layers and the crust seemed incredibly thin, so I thought it was only a few feet thik before hitting the lava layers - the mantle, one day my parents where digging a hole in the backyard and the hole was only a foot deep and I saw a bright orange layer - in excitement I thought they reached the mantle...It was just orange clay soil in the ground

This piece is really good! But for one thing, I need to ask this.

Is that huge chunk of sky already plopped onto the ground, or is it still in the midst of crashing to the ground?

Because it sorta looks like it's being supported by the buildings, or was that the intention from the start?

Other that that, this is really something to shout about!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Chromattix In reply to leonwoon [2010-04-27 10:08:57 +0000 UTC]

It's has already fallen, though only recently, as bits are still crubling away at the sides. Not sure if the buildings could hold it up, but I imaged the sky being lightweight...perhaps as if it was styrofoam

Thanks for faving

Most people I've seen who tried to do this have made it seem stale and all together uninteresting. You made it seem so natural like this could actually happen in nature. Brilliant 9.9/10 (I never give perfect scores so 9 might as well be 10 so you got a 10.9 . At least for what my citicism is worth. Haha.
