Some days you wait... and wait.. and wait for a train. Other days you get lucky. I stopped by the J's crossing with the UP this afternoon and got a pair of CN freights. Here a southbound approaches the south switch that connects to the UP yard and whistles for the grade crossing I'm standing on.No sign of green on the trees yet. Wow does that red nose stand out!

A couple of weeks ago I bumped into a foamer sitting in his car at this crossover. He had Minnesota plates. It was 3 PM and he had been here since 10 AM. In all that time we said he had only seen 1 westbound freight and no eastbounds. He wandered down the roadbed to the Metra station just in time to miss the only CN train of the day on the J. He got about 5 Metra's in that time. Some of them going both ways. A couple of Sunday's back I spent 3 hours sitting on a pedestrian bridge over the J and saw nothing moving. A week ago I spent 1 hour here and saw 2 UP freights, 2 Metra's that hit the diamond together and 2 CN's on the J.
You just never know what you will see or when.
