This is a wonderful shot. I love the tones and texture. I think the sharpness could be adjusted a bit (check out [link] sharpening action, it is really good).

Totally.. I have been using Alex's action on all my recent work. I need to go back through a lot of my older work and do some touching up.
Thank You!

I have to do the same. Any thing taken with my d40 I don't really use anymore.

By the way, what lenses do you use on your D300? I am glad to find another Nikon landscaper.

I was a nikon buff for many years. Back to 35mm days. I switched to a 5D MkII this winter. I did however use:
16-85mm Nikor. Sweet lens!
10-20 Sigma.
10.5 fisheye
15mm sigma fisheye
I was having probems getting a natural "neutral" colored image. Some people think I was high but I know I am not having problems any more with the 5D2. I have also heard that if you dont process RAW in Nikon Capture you are going to have color problems. Color Alogrithms are apparently only compatable with nikon software.

hmm. Never knew that. I have had some issues with color reproduction as well. For some reason even looking at the LCD color isn't true. I'm still messing around with it. I might go to the D700 this fall, or buy a nikon 17-35 or sigma 300, maybe a pc-e lens.

A great lens review site. www.photozone.de
The 16-85 just may one of the best zooms nikon has to offer. Look into it.

I like this a lot.

The sky blue pink colors.
Two tones of rocks.
Wet and dry together.
Clouds with no rain now but maybe in a few days...
A pothole still holding water. A canteen full for you and one for me and some to leave.
Scrub brush making a living in what's a REAL hard scrabble existence.
An ancient landscape with a modern contrail in the sky.

And 800 pixels to enjoy. I wish it was the minimum size for all DeviantArt submissions so I can look and learn.

Really nice capture. I love the contrasts and the colors. Something looks a little odd about the righthand side of the rock outcropping, though.

JoyfulColor In reply to collectiveone [2009-04-18 20:58:16 +0000 UTC]

No, I do realize that there is a cloud behind the rock outcropping, but the perspective just looks a little strange to me. But the colors are gorgeous!

Ahh yes. I see what you mean. Personally I think a wider lens to get a bit more on the right of the butte.
I appreciate you giving your honest opinion. I dont mind a critique.

I'm glad you don't mind (I mean you didn't ask for one). I just tend to call em like I see em. Sometimes I need to learn to keep my mouth (or fingers) shut (still). Thank you for being gracious.

I believe I have been here ..beautiful shot .a little rain fills up those shapes and makes small pools very nicely done

It poured rain the night before. Cleared the air, saturated the sandstone colors and as you said filled up the potholes for some interesting shots!
Thanks for your comment!

welcome I love that whole area from Moab to Grants NM ...Monument, Window Rock, Four Corners, Zuni , Chaco , and of course Bryce , Zion , and Glen

Me too. I cant seem to get enough of it. There is beautiful scenery here in Idaho to shoot, but ya know... There is just something about the desert that keeps calling me back.
We drove through Glen Canyon on the way to monument and it looks like a beautiful place.. I need to get back there and do some looking around.
