Description So the other day I was looking though some supplies in my shelves and I wandered into a blob of sculpty I had bought years ago to make my sister a b-day gift in 2009 (see Clash sculpture ). Now seeing as I never do 3D stuff, it kind of got me curious again to try another piece. So I set up some working space and started a mold of Fibble but his legs were not strong enough to support the body and it kept falling over or keeling down from the weight. So I stuck paperclips into him as a skeleton and boom he was standing just fine.

I was about 3/4th done with Fibble when I decided to add Sin to his shoulders and boy was that hard! All the tiny details like sins teeth and ears and tail were very delicate to assemble and build to his body. Anyways I know it’s not perfect but it was pretty fun to do and good practice in a medium I almost never touch.

Size: 7 inches tall
Made with soft polymer, cooked, and painted with acrylics. (and varnished).

No there are no ear holes on them..the two long ear things are actually tendrils on his head :b When he gets mad they turn into horns.

That is a pretty sweet effort considering you never really do sculpture I'm pretty impressed with what you did with the hair - I'm sure there'd be many people who wouldn't bother with sections of hair as you have done.

Thanks! Yeah the hair was a pain in the butt heh and it still looks more like red noodles instead of HAIR >:/ oh well I hope to get it right at some point...when I actually try to do another sculpture thing!

its best if you use a wrire skeleton, then to strengthen the joints use plumbing clay which hardens and the frame supports better
sculpey is so much fun and you did an amazing job with it

i must ask, have you ever considered bring your comics to a more professional stage

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Comickpro In reply to Manice008 [2011-02-14 02:34:35 +0000 UTC]

Well, I'm self-published meaning I am my own run company haha. It’s just a matter of getting a better set of funds to get a small press license and I can start getting distributers to list the book for retail sales. Meaning yes, the book WILL be in stores like Barnes and Nobles and Borders once I can set up a stronger base of company and prints hope that’s a professional enough stage for you haha!

Its funny: the only sort of art I've always have had aspirations of becoming truly good in is 2-D art, but aside from perspective drawings, I'm not much of a 2D artist. As a 3D artist, some of my work is actually pretty good, if I have enough time on the mold; yet I cannot see myself ever doing something with such stuff as a living. Funny little world we live in, right?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Comickpro In reply to The-Bloody-Bishop [2011-02-12 01:28:16 +0000 UTC]

Yeah that kinda sucks :< I mean there ARE fields you get into like making the sculpture designs in clay for animation companies doing cgi films and a fine artist using 3D art in the gallery. But both jobs are like super super rare or hard to get into...still some people do make it their living heh. ^_^ But yeah I prefer 2D arts because there are a lot more fields of work that want that art form and it’s in higher demand. You could still do it for fun like as a hobby though if you're good at it anyways!

The-Bloody-Bishop In reply to Comickpro [2011-02-12 01:53:08 +0000 UTC]

That is true. Now to get me hands on some clay, hee hee hee. As Arcimedes once said, "give me a lever long enough and a fulcrum on which to place it and I shall move the world." Only in case, it would be clay instead of a lever, and ample heat source to harden the clay as the fulcrum.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Comickpro In reply to The-Bloody-Bishop [2011-02-12 02:26:51 +0000 UTC]

That’s a good analogy I guess haha except now I fear a clay covered world baked to a crisp! You might like the stuff I used, which is Sculpty, it’s like clay but made with soft polymer, it works like clay, is soft, and can be molded solid or hollow. The benefits are that it doesn’t dry out so you can take as long as you want to work on the piece, it doesn’t require any water to get soft (you just push and knead it), and it can be fully cooked in a conventional oven for 20-25 minutes instead of hours in a high pressure kiln. :]

I heard polymer clay is really hard to use
but your sculpture looks great!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Comickpro In reply to jassgirl [2011-02-12 01:06:49 +0000 UTC]

It's actually better than clay because 1. it doesn't dry out so you dont need to use water to keep it moist and 2. it can be cooked in the oven for like 20 mins
