Description So this is my entry for the Phantom Redux contest.

I saw the 25th Anniversary edition of PoTO recently and I just about died when I saw Ramin Karimloo covering his ears so pitifully during "All I Ask of You." (I literally gasped ) It's basically my favorite part of any version I've seen. So although this scene was fairly emotional in the 2004 film (and Gerard's crying was pretty convincing ) I think it would have been perfect if I could have just seen this shot.

Fun fact: Depending on which eye you cover, the Phantom is either realllly sad or REALLY ANGRYYYY

Anyway, I'm a huge phan and have recently been watching "The Phantom Reviewer" on YouTube (who is absolutely brilliant btw, LOVE every second) so ya'll should definitely check him out

haha that's awesome ) thank you so much!

I think I need to get back to doing depressingly emotional scenes. They seem to be my most successful

That part just breaks my heart ever time when Ramin does it... it was pitiful... I cried so hard at that. It just made me sob. And when he just whispered "No..." I love how he whispers things between words in his songs and stuff... it just made the next line completely heartbreaking (even though it's so angry) and I love how you did that with the angry/sad. That's really cleaver.

Thank you very much!
And I totally agree with you on the whole whispering/ad-lib thing. He's got a really great feel for the character.

You're welcome.
He does he does. No one can make me cry like he can when he plays Phantom... the powerful vaunerability (I spelled that wrong...) is amazing! He can put those two things together in the same moment like no one else I've ever seen or heard... he's amazing.

Hah it's practically my job to do art, remember?
Also, I multi-task. . . I can't really NOT multi-task. . . so stuff like this just tends to happen

That's kind of how my philosophy class is. It's stupid, really. I mean, by their own logic, we can never truly know anything, yet these deep thinkers spend years trying to talk themselves in circles to discover the "truth" about everything, which they'll never truly know.

Tis dumb, but engaging. At least it's applied thinking and not just taking notes on things I don't care about.

Conyay In reply to ShizaCoffee [2012-08-24 05:31:31 +0000 UTC]

LOL That sounds like fun.
My first semester English was basically a philosophy class. I did not know what I was getting into. It was really HARD. We had to read a lot of Freud and Marx and whatnot. . . and then we watched Lady Gaga videos. . .

ShizaCoffee In reply to Conyay [2012-08-24 21:06:16 +0000 UTC]

Because, you know, that totally has everything to do with the English language.

At least I'm enjoying most of my classes. Film appreciation isn't boring, and neither is philosophy. My other classes... leave something to be desired, haha.

I had my first classes today. They were both of my gen eds. A science class about insects and a history class on comics. They were both awesome! Unfortunately, I was kind of running a fever through them, so I did not get to appreciate them very much. . . and then an eclectic marching band performed in my cafeteria and I got free vegetarian food!

lol I have not fallen asleep at all yet. yay for doing interesting things! So far this week, I have made a felted batman symbol, animated a hat blowing in the breeze, and caught a bee, a dragonfly, a butterfly, and various other insects (which I then had to freeze to death )

Broadcasting and communications. And Eastern has an excellent communications and journalism department. Their own radio, news broadcast, and television programming deal. It's sweet.

I love how u captured the emotion in this scene; I nearly died seeing Ramin Karimloo too - he's my first phantom so my heart belongs to him forever. You should have painted the hat with the raven's feather in it, but. I love that hat ^^

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Conyay In reply to SnappyIrides [2012-08-17 03:56:44 +0000 UTC]

I'm glad you like it Haha I did realllly want to give him a hat, but since it was supposed to be Gerard Butler (and the clothing was already so innacurate) I had to keep him recognizable.

SnappyIrides In reply to Conyay [2012-08-17 04:35:46 +0000 UTC]

Ahh, the Phantom movie -- such a bad version of our Beloved Phantom

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Conyay In reply to SnappyIrides [2012-08-19 03:24:21 +0000 UTC]

Well, what it lacked in character development and singing, Gerard Butler made up for with the intensity of his growling and snarling at everyone ^_^

Also the orchestration pretty much made it all worthwhile. . .

And though I admit I do still love the movie, the one thing it can NEVER be forgiven for is how "The Point of No Return" makes absolutely ZERO sense! It was only a couple months ago that I watched a stage version and found out that it was SUPPOSED TO

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SnappyIrides In reply to Conyay [2012-08-19 07:34:28 +0000 UTC]

Oh yeah, when I saw Kristine standing there like she was stoned on stage I switched it off and ejected the DVD. Nearly made me sick.
But yes, Gerard Butler does capture the 'unstable' phantom very well.
Have you seen "Love Never Dies"?

Mainly cuz the music is so pwetty and Ben Lewis as the Phantom is kind of hilariously dramatic
