Description This was sort of a semi-commish

As I've said in my other pieces, I've been collaborating with my friend/fellow history buff on a book about Joseph Merrick receiving a helping hand from the mysterious Iron Angel. This armored spirit turns out to be the ghost of Ned Kelly.

Anyway, one of the many things these two guys had in common was their unflinching devotion to their mothers. This kinda got me thinking. What if Ned and Joe, and their moms, had met up together. Naturally Ned would have been much older then Joseph, as he was born eight years before him, hence the reason he looks like a pre-teen and Joe looks like a toddler.

To answer your questions, no I don't really have much of a life. AND I WOULDN'T HAVE IT ANY OTHER WAY!

Actually I first really heard about him via a documentary on the Discovery Channel. Well... it wasn't a full documentary, unfortunately. It was called "Would You Believe It", and it did a little feature about him. The documentary hooked me, and the David Lynch movie reeled me in.

Cool . I heard about him because we had to watch the film at uni. From then on I was hooked XD. Although I must admit I was startled when I first saw him without his hat and cloack. *looks ashamed*

I wish I saw the movie at school, you lucky stiff. And don't worry about being freaked out by the mask and cloak. I always thought he looked like a ghost when he had it on. Personally I think he looks better with out it.

Lol true . I was a little freaked when I saw him without the cloaked at first. Just shock though. I'd have been like Treeves, stared for a couple of seconds then I'd have realized I was being rude and then would speak to him ^^

As would I. That mask was hardly flattering. Heck, I wonder how he was able to see where he was going in it. With only one eyehole, you have a lot of blind spots, and no peripheral vision whatsoever.

I haven't heard about Ned Kelly... But having a life is largely overrated. After all, life is what we think about it! (not my words, stole it from some philosopher).

Aww, but not having a life is awesome! *Shares in the not-life-ness*.
Anyway, really wonderful picture. I love how shy Joe is!

Indeed, my dear. It gives you more time to delve into any delightfully twisted hobbies that may take your fancy.

I know. Ain't he cute? I image our Joe was a bit of a shy guy as a kid.

Very true! I've encountered that many times.
Yes; I can imagine, sweet little thing that he was. Bless his little heart.

nice pic fellow 'no-life'r but is Aspergers syndrome-fueled euphoria even a real thing?
sounds like a bunch of techno-babble to me.

Oh yeah. As much as being on the Spectrum sucks sometime, it can be really fun. Especially when you're doing something you're obsessed with.

Heck, when I went to the London Hospital Museum and saw Joe's hat and church model, I felt like every little kid who got a Nintendo for Christmas.

you saw it? sweet.
what museum is it at?
oh,btw, you ever saw the movie?

Crystal-Gargoyle In reply to PharohBacon [2008-12-14 06:41:34 +0000 UTC]

Are you kidding? The only reason I wanted a DVD player was because I saw a copy of The Elephant Man on DVD in a video store. But yeah. I have it on both DVD and VHS, and have seen it a billion times (and it keeps getting better).

The museum itself isn't that big. It's really just one big room with the walls lined with exhibits behind glass cases. Sadly because of this lack of space, the curators are unable to put Joseph's armchair on display. From what I hear, they're just going to put a photo of it out.

*Sigh* I wish I could have a bake sale or something for them

Unfortunately his book is not written yet, but have no fear. He is committed to the project, so hopefully it will see the light of day.

Ned Kelly was sort of the 19th Century Aussie version of Robin Hood. He was a man of the people and pretty much devoted his life to sticking it to the man. Kelly even made his own armor when facing down the police, making him look like a knight.

Trust me. The dude had brass bollocks
