Comic from last semester, word-based instead of visual or story.I chose to write about my anxiety. And this is what happened.
This was a lot of experimentation with me. I was in kind of a bad place, mentality-wise, throughout most of the semester, so I just kind of ... let go, I guess, and did a comic the way I wanted to do a comic for once.
It ended up being more splash-pagey, more illustrative than really comics, I think, but I was able to talk better. Draw better. This didn't ruin me the way other things have.

WELL LAITMA. I TALK TO HER LIKE. FIVE TIMES A YEAR. And she like my best friend at the start of high school. I also did not even realize how much primary stuff she'd put up.

..........Wow. There's something seriously disconcerting and claustrophobic about this whole comic, and I think the sense of anxiety really did come across incredibly wow. Just... wow. The composition and twisted framing and just, this whole page I keep trying to make some kind of sense of artistically/physically but it's just this kind of slant and it's... really disturbing, really. Which really just adds to the mood so much. I still can't quite get over the vertical lines--feels like something's seeping out, or like, torn and stretched atom by atom, like--static feed or something, I don't know how to descibe it.
But seriously, this is absolutely incredible and just oh so very very beautiful. And I'm happy to hear that you got to draw how you really wanted to for this! It's good to let go, and I hope that you're feeling better now! <:]

I based the panel arrangement on this page after a series of abstracted photographs/paintings I'd done the year before, just to really highlight the jarring (?) composition. It's more confusing than not, haha, but I'm glad it's difficult, I guess?? It's meant to be.
And yes, static! I wanted bleeding static, for lack of a better term. <:
But thank you! I'm trying to be more loose with my aesthetics/mindset this semester, so hopefully it won't be so stressful. We'll see if I can actually finish a comic that way, however. xD

This came together really nicely, and strongly. airing personal shit can be harrowing but i think it's also always rewarding one way or another. i really enjoyed this c:

Aw, thank you! It was a bit terrifying having a class critique on it, but I definitely felt better for having done it, so I think that's a good sign. xD
