Todayβs guest artist is JP Jordan. To see more of his work check out his deviantArt page .I watch a lot of police procedurals and there's something interesting going on with the police chief character. Psych's police chief is a female, and Castle's is a man of color. Law & Order, The Good Guys, The Mentalist, The Glades, and Memphis Beat all have police chiefs who are women of color. If it were just one show, I wouldn't say it was racist or sexist, but it's prevalence is indicative of something, I think.
EDIT: And as Devonition so astutely pointed out below, NCIS started with a woman and switched to a black man.

Have you watched Homicide? I haven't, but from what I've heard of it, it's supposed to be the best and most realistic police procedural show ever (barring reality shows and documentaries).

The middle panel is flat-out hilarious. The last panel made me laugh nervously due to the incredible accuracy of its observation. Sad when the only role of females in a show is as victims. Or tokens. Or token victims.

Right, ever notice how often there's a dead stripper? Is that to pull our heart strings because we're so attached to strippers, or is that some sort of bizarre satisfaction for people?

I think it's that they're trying too hard to make sure their show isn't concidered racist/sexist because they either don't have people of color or women in the cast or that they don't have people of color or women with important roles, so they stick them in a high posion like police cheif.

Right. Even though the character has little actual screen time, s/he is in a position of authority. And the fact that s/he fills multiple diversity parts is just being efficient.
