Description This is a smallish (8 X 11 inch) portrait of Joan of Arc I did on Cresent Illustration Board with acrylic paints and India Ink. I used brushes and my Paashe AB airbrush.
I wanted to depict Joan of Arc but not in the typical fashion, either on horseback or engulfed in flames. In this rendering, I pictured her moments prior to her death, her face reflecting a kind of graceful acceptance of her worldly fate and looking upwards towards her Lord and destiny. I included a garland of Laurel leaves in honor of her leadership and victorious performance in battle. However, it is doubtful she would have been allowed such a tribute by her detractors under the circumstances, and at the time of her execution.

The original was puchased by my friend Pilar. Big thanks go to her.
Some beautiful signed and matted prints are for sale. (ddecay@gmail.com)

It's beautiful. I've always sid that a person's neck is one of the most beatiful and sensual things, and this represents it magnificently.

I'm so lucky. Some of the areas on women I find most sexy and beautiful are often exposed out in the world, necks are one of them. I love your work by the way and can't wait to see much more Take care, DDk

This shows how art not only conveys beauty, but the depth of emotions. Congratulations on yet another lovely piece.

I'm going to do what I should have done a long time ago, and add you to my friends list .

Thank you so much for the wonderful insight and comment. We"re all onions you know... layers and layers of thin fragile veneer, susceptable to weathering and rot from without, but inside us... a core, pure and white.

She looks as if she has transcended the mortal coil and will feel no pain when the flames come. I am struck blind by the pure beauty of this work of art.

You are too kind. I also am very pleased by the overall look on her face and the acceptance portrayed on it. Sometimes I can really paint well (up to my ability and blessing), and sometimes I get really lucky or graced, I had both going for me when this painting happened. I'm so glad that it moves you so. Thanks so much.

Thanks Lisa. I was very lucky to have the gal that agreed to model for it do so. She didn't see herself as very beautiful, as you do and I did, (go figure), and if she'd known she was portraying a saint, she may have backed out altogether.

This is just beautiful. I have a lot of trouble drawing with ink, but you've managed to create something so graceful with it... I'm in awe
