Description
Shot with Canon's 100mm macro lens. One from the archive.Natural light that was diffused by light, high atmospheric clouds made the perfect diffuser for that big yellow ball. Like all of my photos I spent less than two minutes in post on this one -the light and the aperture paint the scene for me...

John, I couldn't fully appreciate the kind of expertise involved to produce this image until I tried a similar one [link] myself with the same equipment, and realized how hard it is to overcome the shallow DOF in Macro. 
BTW, do you know why the female didn't loop her abdomen forward and picks up the sperm from the male in my picture?

Keep in mind that the area of acceptable focus is going to be parallel to the sensor (perpendicular to the lens) and think of it as a piece of thin cardboard, and then look for a way to lay that surface over the subject so that you can get as much of the subject in focus as possible. In macro it's called shooting with a "magic angle" and it's how I get the depth in my photos
It's possible that they have either just hooked up and landed (the male will catch the female in mid air) and she's not being cooperative, or they are finished mating and he needs to take her to the water so she can lay the eggs.
