The finished version of this sketch and lineart:

Done almost entirely with Watercolor! Yep! I finally feel like I am making some progress with my watercolor painting abilities! I had originally planned on using it only for the sunset and maybe the water. But after finishing both of those I was feeling pretty good with it and decided to use it for some more things. About the only thing I did with marker was her hair...and that's just because I am a control freak when it comes to drawing my hair...lol! I used marker on the dark blue part of her dress too just because it would have taken forever to get the shade of blue I have to be that dark with watercolor. The rest is in watercolor with a bit of white acrylic paint in some places to touch up or highlight.

I know it's not completely perfect and I'm sure this is plenty of room for improvement, but I just feel so excited right now because watercolor has forever been a love/hate relationship for me...and I finally feel like I am getting somewhere. And I just really love how it all turned out!

Anyway...there goes my rant...lol. Now on to the actual subject of this piece. It's from the moment in the movie where Eric sails away to marry Vanessa and Ariel is watching them go. A very heart wrenching scene to me for the movie.

Ariel is (c) Disney.

Overall

Vision

Originality

Technique

Impact

I love the colors of the sunset and of the water!(I also love her hair!) I think you did an amazing job with the sunset, the sky,her hair, and especially the water. The sunset is enchanting! This to me is one of the most powerful scenes in the movie;how almost all hope is lost and basically her happily ever after is sailing away.I really think you captured this scene very well!
I'm giving you:
5 for Vision
4 for Originality
4 1/2 for Technique
5 for Impact(This scene is just so breathtaking and I think that you really portrayed it perfectly!) Amazing job! e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/sā€¦ " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=" (Smile)"/>

It was my pleasure!

Same here! It's a really heartbreaking and emotional scene. Most people generally wouldn't consider this one of their favorite parts of the movie, but this is really such a powerful scene.

It's definitely one of my favorite scenes from the movie as well...my heart practically breaks for her when I see it. Such a powerful scene!

oh, it's so great to see one more version of that scene - which is really like the most heartbreaking scene of all Disney movies
I love the smooth coloring of the sky and water - and also the white highlights on the water. it looks thus a little fresh - as I could feel the wind blow
the hair is stressed a bit to mcuh for my taste, but that's just me.
the work you did on the wood is fantastic but almost not seen cause I only look at her, the hair etc... but that's ok. it's just a pity

What do you think about my interpretation?? [link]

Thank you! Yeah I have a tendancy to always make the hair stand out in my art. It's made even more stressed in this pic because I did it with marker instead of watercolor like the rest of the image, so it has a different quality to it all together. Which is partly intentional since I wanted a lot of focus to be drawn to Ariel anyway as the focal point. The wood texture was a surprise to me! I don't draw it very much...only a few times before this one, but for some reason it usually turns out better than I had even planned for it to.

I'll have a look at yours as well.
