Description Page Five in the Guilty Gear Relationships Series.

It's tough to give an exact timeframe for this...I'd say it happened somewhere between 2140 and somewhere after 2175 when Justice was Sealed, there's a lot of things that happened before and after...

Well, you can be sure this happened after the incident with Testament, as PWAB realized that making Gears to combat more Gears was a mistake, so they switched to using a method called "Hi-Deigokutsuipou" aka the Six Forbidden Magics. Once a Forbidden Beast is on the battlefield, Gears instinctively know they are a natural enemy, in fact that's related directly to a Gear's programming, strangely enough.

Also, it's never officially mentioned when exactly Venom was going to be killed or why (when Zato spared him), so I'm assuming it had to do with the fact he was rejected from being a Host, though it could have been something else, I don't know what. Slayer mocks his inability to be a Host and fight Gears for that reason at any rate.

Zato's is called "Shokusei Kagejin" by the way. "Shadow Beast Organism", literally translated.

Also the official shortcut word for the Assassin's Syndicate/Guild is just "Soshiki" or "Organization".

Really? Because most of the information just said Venom was going to be killed for being useless and unwilling to kill people, not because he wasn't a host. a Still an interesting notion, though. It would explain why he's the only one out of the three not to have a forbidden beast, in any case.

While that is part of his reason for being "useless", the notion could also be said of Millia being unwilling to kill. I'm sure in both cases, it was considered, so they probably thought they'd make better guinea pigs if not assassins...though even in Millia's case, even when she used Angra, she was still unwilling.

But there's a quote by Slayer to Venom that says "Not a vessel (Host), suffocating isn't it?" In other words he's saying it's a struggle for such a human being to live in combat against Gears and those as powerful as Gears.

Venom uses his own form of magic summoning which is referred to as "Encirclement of the Ball" which works in conjunction with his Instant Kill: Deimmu Borgir or Dark Fortress.

And even though he hates Millia, he's worked alongside her on many occaisions.

In the end there's a lot of grey area, and some of the stuff from GGX changed in XX, so I had to make due with what I understood.

Well, I never really jumped to the conclusion that Slayer was talking about being able to fight off Gears so much as the fact that it's a jab against Venom's constant Zato obsession - he wasn't a vessel for anything, therefore not as capable of destruction as Millia, therefore was not as held in high esteem as she was. I don't think he cared much about whether or not Venom can take down Gears.

I don't know if his "Zato-obsession" was that so much as it was his obsession to duty.

Even if his desire for Zato was heavily implied it was never totally stated.

I don't know, man. I'm pretty sure that response to getting scalpel'd is clear enough. *shot for taking the easy way out*

But no, I kinda don't see how "obsession with duty" and "obsession with Zato" are NOT correlated in this case. I know it came really close in his AC+ Story Mode to being the latter, to the point where all the choices and most of the dialogue hinges on him following what he thought Zato would have wanted and eventually deciding the only way to be happy is to say "screw this, zato was a dick and I was dumb for going along with this >[ everybody get out" or just... keep going along with it and trolling the PWAB because hey that sounds fun. Really though, that can all still be either or.

But if you are talking about the unmentionable l-word, there's also the fact that while Venom never says it (though he does mention that the only meaning to his life anymore is making sure the last remaining part of Zato stays alive, multiple times) both Slayer and Millia will mention it and considering that Venom always changes the subject on them, I think that's as good as we'll ever get. Millia will even outright call it love before fighting him, not to mention she spent an entire drama cd dangling information over his head just to listen to him constantly go from "shut up I'm not helping you " to "Ajdahf89dshfa OH GOD ZATO-SAMA WHERE IS HE ;A;". Slayer will mostly warn him about his new grunge-wank against Millia, but also point out in his win-quote that Venom just couldn't be Zato's prince and he has to deal with that, plus the aforementioned "you're just not as strong as Millia" prodding.

I KNOW, I KNOW. Technically you can keep saying it's just implied or he's just a weird workaholic, but. Sometimes we'll just never get to hear anything outright. It probably wouldn't be GG if anything was officially stated. Damn you, Daisuke.

Actually here's the kicker, in AC+ Venom started having nightmares regarding Zato-1/Eddie, and he was so sick of it and Millia that he killed it in his dreams and killed her in real life (alternate ending where he adopts a boy named Eddie as a drifter/hustler). One of Millia's quotes suggests he has a skewed view of love, in that he's using love as an excuse to kill her.

Alternately, Venom no longer concerns himself with either of them, and focuses solely on the well-being of the Guild and goes to attack PWAB directly (probably with Slayer/Baiken's help).

I'm pretty sure he hates Eddie just as much as he hates Millia, and no amount of hate will bring Zato back (Zappa's S-ko made a comment that his hatred was a match for her own.).

So in the end he probably became the de-facto leader of the Guild, ironically without the use of a Kinjuu.

And regarding Night of Knives, it's heavily implied that he can team up with Millia just as well as Zato-1, and his comments to Goddfried (a warrior servant under an enemy commander) suggest his loyalty as a servant for Zato is more important than any feelings he may have.

Also, when did Slayer mention Gears? Because I was under the impression that he wouldn't, like. Care. Idk.

You probably aren't familiar with the GGXX Drama CD: Night of Knives, so if you ever get a chance to listen, please do.

Also I'm working on translating a script to it eventually.

For now though, you can read my crappy notes.
