Many years ago, when Bittern had returned to steam, I managed to capture her in full flight on the East Coast Mainline, just outside of York. She went by so quickly, it was a miracle I managed to get a photo of her at all. Years later, she'd prove to be the fastest of them all in preservation by reaching 93mph on the mainline. Amazing shot my friend. To be honest, I think this engine with it's BR Green paintwork is my favorite livery on this engine.

That's so cool! I'm surprised that Bittern was in BR Green when she first returned to steam.

Its because the other two were in BR colours so we had a running set haha. Then she went into Garter blue with coronation trim and renamed the Dominion of New Zealand for a while. She's the only one to wear the most liveries and different identities.Β

Ah, I remember. I also remember that for a while, she was disguised as Silver Link. That's pretty interesting.

Yeah you're right, the only ever time that livery has been recreated...and I don't think she was even in steam then. Think that was in 1988.Β

It would be really lovely to see an A4 in that livery again. It's so rare.

Well I think Bittern will probably be the most likely choice for a striking livery/identity change. See a silver A4 on the main line again would be stunning.Β

Thank you very much. Not all of them were, but the ones that were are named after fast birds in the British Isles. I think they're quite nice names.

I know. I'm just saying. I only know a few with the bird names like Mallard, Kestrel, Great Snipe, Gadwall and Hearing Gull.
