After, 15+ hours of on and off work...150+ layers later, I've finally completed another vector piece. I used photoshop.. (I know, it's a raster program) but every single shape is made with the pen tool (ie photoshop's vector tool). Besides, everything's raster once it's saved for the web anyways...
The reference pic provided by ~bonafyde was used to create the model/vector (which is also infact her photo which she took a few days prior), while everything else was just purely fabricated by myself... with one or two of my own photos of cherry blossoms as quick reference, ... oh.. and

because I'm not familiar with illustrator... illustrator's interface and shortcuts are frustrating... at least for me... for someone whose used photoshop almost everyday for the past 3yrs.. and every otherday before that. Just not use to how illustrator works,

This is very fresh dude. You used the vector technique in a very intresting way with the skin tones on the girl. It gives the image a sense of professionalism and quality.
The cherry blossom was a nice touch, and while I think that particular element can get repetive in japanese-influenced art, it only adds up the effect in this picture.
I first thought that the branch should've had toned colors also, but after a closer inspection, I noticed that it sunk into the backround and supported the focus you put on the cherry flowers. With toned colors, it would only distract the viewer since it does take up a fair amount of space, and I like how discret it is at the moment.
The old japanese flag pretty much seals the deal. It adds more life and symbolism to the image, especially of the fact that the girl is in the center of the red sun.
However I'm not much of a kanji experter, what does the kanji say?
Anyways I'm thinking of ordering this, I hope the shipping won't be so expensive. Anyways good work man.

Yep.. I always loved the old japanese war flag... it just has this very powerful presence to it... with the stripes and the strong red tones.
The kanji reads "yu mi" as in Yumi, the name of my friend, the girl's photo in which I used as a reference to create this ... her da account is ~ bonafyde ...

you reeeaaaalllly ought to try illustrator, if you don't use it. This would have taken so much less work and time in illustrator and, get this, one layer. But I love it. I should have said that first, the end result is breath-taking.

I have tried illustrator... but the controls seem odd, after using photoshop everyday for the past 5yrs.. it would probably take just as long trying to figure out the functions and controls...
