Thanks very much! My tablet pen is dead at the moment, so I can't draw anything right now, but I am definitely planning on drawing it in the future.

I really liked when you drew this, and I thought instead of just praising you I can give you my version of the theory how Genesect may have been Kabutops at one point (or how the original Genesect could've been descended from Kabtops at least). Of course Genesect could've been its own Pokemon that was modified, but it's just a nice theory to talk about i think.
Now, the general evidence is about their Pokedex entries being incredibly similar and their overall body shapes being similar. The biggest hole is about the thinness of his waist, and I think I have a way to explain it. Firstly the Trilobites and Horseshoe Crabs that Kabuto/ps are based on are related to insects, so it could be possible that over time Kabuto/ps evolved into a Rock/Steel and Bug type that is Genesect. If you don't want to use this thought and say that they just modified Kabutops then there's no reason not to think that they didn't use genetic modifications to change the typing of the Pokemon they were creating. Genesect could in fact be a chimera of several Pokemon that were used with the genetic code of Kabutops as the base for their Pokemon.
Unlike the anime, in the games Mewtwo is in the Pokedex and since they were trying to create the ultimate Pokemon if they felt Mewtwo was in anyway a success in that regard they may have modified it to give it the Bug type in an attempt to make it strong against Mewtwo. In strengthening it they turned the Rock type into steel, which even in the games isn't too far fetched (example here is Steelix).
Anyway I know it's all just a theory and evidence for it is flimsy, it's just a nice thought to think about. I used to have the theory better in my head, I should've wrote it down xD; Oh well, I hope if nothing else this is an interesting idea.

I've heard that theory before, I think it's interesting! I don't have a theory about Genesect's past, really, but it is obvious from the PokéDex entries that they come from around the same time period. It's definitely possible for it to be related to a relative of Kabutops, or like you said, a mixture of different Pokémon DNA.
If the games' timelines are anything to go by, it's possible that Team Plasma created Genesect after they heard about Team Rocket's success with Mewtwo, and they wanted to create something to stand up to it, type-wise, like you said. I think that's a pretty solid theory, and considering that there are several Genesect in the anime, they obviously created more than one, possibly in an attempt to 'one-up' Mewtwo. I'm planning on doing a Genesect vs. Mewtwo drawing sometime in the future, so that should be fun to work on, haha.

Mhm, I was thinking about it ever since I heard it and I came up with what I said in my own attempt to fill the hole in the theory. I know I've seen theories of other Pokemon besides Mew being in Mewtwo's DNA, but simple gene splicing would be easier to believe with Mewtwo than with Genesect if he is indeed from Kabutops since turning genes on/off can change a creature as much as Mewtwo has changed.
Mhm, it is much more believable in the games than in the anime. I was wondering how to make it work for the anime too, and I think I got that too. Yeah Giovonni and them may have forgotten Mewtwo, but the records of him in Team Rocket are still there and there's no reason to think they couldn't have been sold off by a poor grunt or something. Also, since Ash remembers him, he could've told Professor Oak and through word of mouth Mewtwo's existence could be known and they could've figure it out that way. I like the idea of them being multiple of him too, especially if they know Mewtwo can use Aura Sphere... Mewtwo might be able to take down two or three, but numbers would get the best of him especially since they're so powerful. Not as powerful as him, but powerful enough. I look forward to the picture! Gonna base it on the movie or will it be unique (like your trainer who captured Mewtwo in the Battle for Mewtwo pic fighting a Genesect)?
All this brings other things to mind. Do you think they're ever gonna tie up loose ends from previous games, like not needing Shelder for Slowbro/king? Or how now Remoroid disappears when Mantyke evolves into Mantine? Or Cubone's issues with breeding and Kyurem being the original of Reshiram and Zekrom (mainly it seems like even in the games it seems that there are multiple of the legendary Pokemon so are there multiple Kyurem? Though it would make sense to me that there are more Kyurem elsewhere because he's from a comet crashing and no others of them are on Earth)?

Of course it's not a pony, haha. Pokémon is my main fandom, after all. Glad you liked it, though!
