Description The Emperor

In the world of Naruto, The Third Hokage is the pillar of Konoha in a way felt by every member of the community. He is the strongest ninja, and one of the wisest - as symbolized by the katana he wields and the crystal ball on his lap with which he scryes the information he needs to rule his village well. The crystal ball also hints at the amount of knowledge he holds - the Third Hokage is also nicknamed "The Professor" because of his wide knowledge of jutsu. His word is law in Konoha, not only by virtue of the position he holds, but also because he is respected by those who follow him.

Behind him the monument to the Hokages can be seen - a testament to the forces of civilization that have led and shaped Konoha since its founding.

Meanings at a glance: The forces of law which bind society together; stability; a strong influence which sets rules; sometimes a powerful male figure, or simply someone who has a magnetically powerful personality; the dominance of reason over instinct

Of all the cards I've done so far, this one feels the least perfect to me. I like the Third for the concept, but something about the panoply (or possibly the picture composition) doesn't feel entirely correct. I'm not quite sure what it is, but if I ever figure it out I might re-do the card.

**edit**
I finally figured out what was wrong! And it was simple, really. The chair needed a small pedastal/platform thingy under it. That was all. So simple! *facepalms*

I played a little fast and loose with the background, too. When Kishimoto-sensei shows the Third doing actual governing-type stuff, it's usually in this big, expansive office that resembles a throne room except that he's behind a desk. However, the Fifth's office is shown to be a small room with windows...BUT theoretically she moved into the Third's old office. So I've just borrowed the Fifth's nice windows, made them look out on the monument instead of over Konoha village, and removed the desk. I tried painting the desk in, but it just wasn't right. The Emperor is too large to hide behind a desk, if you know what I mean.

Anyway, props to the Third. He kicketh much ass.

maybe it's because he's off center? anyways, great job! love the hokage's faces in the background too!

Well, the off-centeredness doesn't really bother me. (Actually when I was in college, my art teachers kept pounding into everybody how bad it was to Really And Truly Center A Subject in the Very Middle of the Picture, so if anything all that brainwashing would work the other way around on me. o_O) But it feels sort of like something's missing. I can't tell what, though, and the card already has analogues of everything in the Rider-Waite card that I can think of. Well, except maybe for specifically Christian/Golden Dawn symbolism, but since I'm not sufficiently versed in Qabbalistic lore to be comfortable playing with its symbology, and I'm trying not to just mimic everything the Rider-Waite does like a monkey...well, I'm sort of stumped. Maybe the answer will present itself eventually, or maybe some bright DevArt surfer will have a brainwave and enlighten me. ^_^

Anyhow, thanks for the C&C!

He does fit as the emperor, but you are right that there's something that doesn't fit. But I can't even tell what! Grr..
Good job tho!
