Description The steamship Pacifica.
SS Pacifica is operates as a part of the Australian merchant navy un-officially and flies that flag along with the RSC pendant and the US flag indicating her destination.

She is a twin screw liner powered by two steam fed from three boiler rooms on G deck with top of casings on F deck which is primarily used for frieght and passenger baggage storage.

On the boat deck affixed on either side are 8 wooden lifeboats of the clinker style covered with canvas. Each has emergency rations, oars, a mast and a primitive radio.
Each have the capacity for about 55 passengers.
In total the lifeboats on the boat deck and those food on the Poop deck have a capacity for 550 souls. On top of the bridge are two collapsible type boats with the capacity for 50 passengers which brings up total boat capacity of 650 souls.
Although this is only half of the amount of passengers carried by the liner as built (1,560), she has since had her third class cabins converted into Tourist Class Third Cabin and all First and Second class cabins are now provided with Air conditioning and private lavatories. This brings the maximum passengers possible to be transported to 1, 200 souls, less than the boat capacity but deemed suitable for the ships intended role of cruising.

The Bridge forward contains the wheelhouse and behind that the Marconi/Radio room. This room is now also retrofitted with Radar though this image shows the ship before conversion.

The next deckhouse contains the Captains cabin.

Between the first and second funnels is a casing that covers the dome of the Grand Staircase which descends from A deck down to F.

The rearmost deckhouse contains the gymnasium and the mens smoking room.

A Deck contains the officers quarters, First Class cabins and the First class dining room. This deck has expansive promenade area with cabins openning out onto the deck.

B Deck contains no portholes or promenades but does have an expansive deck area immeadiatly aft towards the Poop Deck.
On this deck Second Class cabins can be found as well as the Second Class Dining room, First/Second class reading and writing room and galleys for First and Second Class dining rooms.

C deck (also known as the Shelter deck) includes the Well deck and forward castle. On this deck one can find the Tourist Third Cabin dining room and galley, The Sailors Bar and a few Tourist Third Cabins. On the Well deck are two electric cranes to assist in dockyard operations. The Well deck is off-limits to passengers as is the Prow of the vessel.

D deck contains the swimming pool and indoor tennis court as well as crew quarters and few Tourist Third Cabins.

E deck is the final passenger deck. On this deck only Tourist Third Cabins can be found.

The ships hull is divided into 8 watertight compartments and a collision bulkhead in the bow. Most bulkheads go up to the Shelter deck but three of them only ascend as for as E deck.

In theory the ship could remain afloat with two compartments flooded but it has not been tested wether the pumps could cope with extra influx of water or wether the watertight door systems can be closed in times of electrical failure.

The ships Grand Staircase is flanked by two escalators that can only be used by the First Class passengers and senior crew members.

In the boiler rooms, most of the men are homeless and live aboard ship in times of port. Total crew onboard is 280.

The ships engines are of the Quadruple Expansion type and she has an operational speed of 18 knots but she reached as high as 22 knots in speed trials.

The ships dimensions are;
570ft (174.1m) in Length
65.5ft (19.99m) in Beam
Displacement of 14,191 GRT

She was built at Harland and Wolff and launched in 1907. She entered service with White Star for two years but was quickly deemed un-suitable and sold to an Australian shipping firm where she has remained ever since.
