............................................................
A U.S. cavalryman sharpshooter takes aim with his Spencer carbine. He's been tracking his quarry though the night, and now, as dawn breaks on a cloudy day, he has found what he seeks. He sits on the back of his trusty horse atop a grassy hill and targets someone or something in the pine forest below. He the latest addition to my series of American Old West themed art.

Note this scene uses purchased content. The characters were posed in poser then imported into Vue where the rest of the scene was constructed. Final rendering was done in Vue and took about 36 hours on an Intel I5 2.8 GHz with 8 GB of RAM. Post production was also done in GIMP.

Thanks for looking!

Love the posing here and the beautiful umber and sepia tones through the picture. Really gives the impression of a high quality painting (though most of your artwork does!). I think he could be the cover of a great western novel.

Are his stirrups a bit long or did they all wear them like that? And would he be on the horse if he had to hold steady? Maybe he's just an awesome shot. It makes for a great picture anyway.

Excellent picture that reminds me these old western movies !

If I were him, I would place my feet on the stirrups to stay on the horse (I'm kidding, I know the difficulty to get a fully correct pose on a horse with Poser )

ONLYoneCANNOLI [2012-07-27 23:03:45 +0000 UTC]

does the 8GB of ram make it easier to make the scene or render the scene ?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

deskridge In reply to ONLYoneCANNOLI [2012-07-29 14:37:14 +0000 UTC]

Yes to both really. 8GB of ram lets me run both poser and vue at the same time during design, or I can have a really complex scene without things slowing down too much in vue. When it comes to rendering, it doesn't help as much as it seems to top out at 4 Gig on the performance monitor, but it does allow me to continue to do other things on the computer (coding, running word, browsing the web, etc) while the render is going.
