my mum has it. i've always thought it was hereditary. And i just realised the other day when i was ringing up an order that although it helps me read upside down...it's really hard to not realise what you're reading is upside down!

i totally rang up an order that was sposed to be 21.95 as 12.95 because that's exactly what it looks like.

GAAH!

i totally understand, St

coming from someone who has to spell for their mum (happily) all the time

That's nothing to be ashamed of, ST! The greatest barrier to success is the lack of confidence experienced at school because of the high profile given to correct spelling. Correct spelling doesn't matter to anyone except grammar nazis. I mean, Shakespeare pronounced even his name differently on different scripts, and people think he was pretty good at English .

My RS teacher at school was dyslexic, and he was a Doctor and a Reverend, totally brilliant guy.

Any clue how many famous people with dyslexia are out there?
Here's a few: Leonardo da Vinci (there was never anyone as genius as him, nor will there be), Tom Cruise, Cher, Walt Disney, Thomas Edison (Thank him for lightbulbs and other HUGE inventions!), Nelson Rockefeller (the guy made BIIIIG money), Pablo Picasso, Hans Christian Anderson (all the magic in literature comes from him), Lewis Caroll (Alice in WOnderland!), Winston Churchill, Alexander Graham Bell (invented the telephone!), Michael Faraday (thank him for electricity), John F Kennedy, Thomas Jefferson (3rd president of US, architect, author, lawyer...the list goes on...), Stephen Spielberg...

So you should be proud of it, and if someone dares hold that against you, ask if it was good spelling that earned all these people [start with da Vinci...] their greatness. ST FTW!!!!

Being dyslexic doesn't stop you being a great person. One of my best friends has dyslexia, and she still managed to get an A in GCSE level english. It can be hard for her to cope with all of the side effects, like the fact that she gets frustrated easily when she can't do something, but she still manages to hide her dyslexia really well. The thing is, no one can help with the fact that dyslexia makes people feel incredibly stupid, because it's only recently that it's been recognised as a diagnosible (is that a word?) problem. There's plenty of support out there for you, ST

There's a difference between making a few typos and writing words the wrong way round now and then.
My friends dyslexic, heres an example of his typing:
"i love hot days at the beych in Wellington
school i go 2 the best 1
i wot 2 be an actor 1 day that mt drem..i think"

Hey, you don't need to be ashamed of that. My best friend is severely dyslexic - but that doesn't stop the fact she's a BRILLIANT writer. (Once she's pressed spell check ^-^)

When you're feelin' down about being dyslexic, remember that you put the sexy in dyslexic and chuckle at it

And keep in mind that Whoppi Goldberg was/is dyslexic.

Be happy with yourself no matter if something is "wrong" with you or not. Like Backstreet Boys (or was it N*Sync?) said "what makes you different makes you beautiful!"

Ok, I'll stop now

Dyslexia can be fun at times. Sure it's a little embarrassing, but no one thinks you're stupid. It's not something you can control. And you can pull some good pranks no one can scold you for if you plead "dyslexia"

My boyfriend when growing up, didn't read normally, though he learned to - it led to weird situations when he was reading things backwards and didn't notice they were backwards, because he had taught himself for it to not matter the order he read the letters in.

I think it's just another way to take away the specialness and individuality of children.
To make everyone exactly the same.
