Description Counter X was a last ditch effort to salvage three flagging X-spinoffs in 2000 - X-Force, Generation X, and X-Man. Warren Ellis was pegged as sort of a plotmaster who redefined the concepts behind the three series, leaving the scripting to other individuals (who eventually took over as full writers). " All in all, it was a pretty dire time for the mutant books (it will get worse later... everything needs an ending baby !) . Outside of Fabian Nicieza's awesome work on Gambit, a stellar arc on Wolverine by Steve Skroce, and a great run on Cable by Robert Weinberg, Revolution was basically panned. A blight on the X-franchise that required a further creative reshuffle in May 2001 (which later showed to be as clever as comfounding cyanide pills for M&Ms but hey, that is a subject I constantly spoof,no ? ) .

Here is something that may come as a shock to all of you (maybe not if you were paying attention earlier..): I LOVE COUNTER-X ! All 3 of them ! They may not be perfect but I still was influenced by a lot of their notions in my drawings of a lot of these characters .

X-FORCE : This may be the weakest of the titles but I don't find it bad at all. In short, Sam, Tabby,Jess and James are trained by Pete Wisdom to get a better control of their powers and do some good.. but seeing that this is Wisdom we're talking about things got awry quite quickly and the kids (joined by Domino) will get to take care themselves of their and find themselves in a governmental conspiracy about the lastest program of criminal rehabilitation ...
This is maybe the last time we'll get the X-force crew as badasses rather than unwitting pawns so I make the best of it ...It may not be as great as JF Moore's run but at least it didn't kiddify them and treated the team as adults.

GENERATION X :This is literally the opposite of Faerber's run (which I friggin loved BTW) in that it was way too frigging dark. Of the two story arcs Ellis was involved in, one was about a psychopath creating robots powered by sentient, corpse-like teenagers, and the next was four issues that led to the death of Synch (and I am not doing poor Ev any favor, I know how to bring Maggot back, for a price, but not Ev ...) and Emma Frost's murder of Adrienne, with them both feeling ultimately underplayed (Unless you remember ). Wood's last final issues was spectacular, and stood right next to Lobdell for spot on characterization. His "day in the life" style story arc was fantastic, perfectly capturing every character to a tee; Chamber's loneliness and anger at the world, to the point where he rejects a woman who seemed to understand him in a moment Monet and Jubilee finally finding some common ground in the wake of Synch's death, Skin realizing that Gen X is his family, and LA is long gone history, and Husk taking charge for the first time in her life, it all felt like the natural step for these characters to be taking. Finishing up that last issue, with the team sharing their tearful goodbyes with one another as they tried to plan their futures, it was honestly heartbreaking.... and it comes of as no surprise that I took most of them from here... (I mean come on , Marvel butchered ALL of them, it is not like I am pissing off anyone ...)

X-MAN : Now folks , the big one... the controversy that shatters Nate fans AND... I personally prefer THIS character over his immature predecessor . First of all you have to understand this : Nate is NOT human , he is a bio-weapon that was made by DNA synthesis (not even a clone, but a new organic anomaly ) . If anything his "biological father" is Mr Sinister so he has no actual business with Jean or Scott . He works MUCH better as a wild (MONSTRUOUS) card , following his own morality . A lot say this is a diversion from what he was... THIS IS ACTUALLY A RETURN TO HIS ROOTS ! (And don't get me started on Dark X-men...)

Well there it is kids, you know what I DID to them anyway XD ...

Considering all the havoc the so-called "comic bubble" played on the economy, I'm not surprised that the two big names would try a major shift to stay grounded, then again, they do say every era has its pluses and minuses so...

It's refreshing to see all these characters I haven't read the titles you mentioned, except for a few issues. I might read Generation X sometime, I have all the scans archived.
Also, lovely comparison there with the cyanide tabs and M&M's, thanks for the laugh

I hated that they killed sync off, and worse that I some how missed it at the time. only found out years later when I reread the series.

What do you think of Disney buying Marvel? The only bad thing they have done was cancel DLC's for Marvel Ultimate Alliance 1&2. I love the Ultimate Spider-Man show though.

The costumes may change. But the controversy and "bad writing" never does.

So you agree ? XD I am perfectly aware of its unpopularity but even my favourite Marvel event list will be really weird XD

Apoc's dead and the heroes waste entire paperbacks fighting other heroes. At this point I think Marvel writers are entertained by keys jingling in front of them.

But hey, at least they don't Reboot every year a certain Comic Company we all know.
