Description
Similar to a lot of prototypical characters, Joker wasn't quite THE Joker until he started watching Looney Tunes reruns on TV and figured out who he wanted to be in life and how to perfect the method in his madness.
O'Neil era-born Joker, mostly from the 70's to the 90's, with his flashiness, loquacious vocabulary, deadly tricks, primadonna attitude, Mark Hamill voice and ludicrous schemes is MY DUDE; whenever I hear he's back in a comic or on-screen, I have to savor it ! You have NO IDEA how happy I was to see him in the first 2 Arkham games, because he's been absent in the comics (save the DCAU ones) for a LOOOOONG time, having been fired and replaced by Jeff the Killer or some edgy face removed OC.
It pleases me to inform you that Azzarello'sΒ "Batman Europe" and Marini's "Batman Dark Prince Charming" brought MY Clown Prince back on stage and on top form !

"Get out of my face clown!
Which one?"
Still one of my favorite Joker moments, Hamill is the man XD

It's really sad when they decided to remove the Joker's sense of humor... when his cartoonishness is EXACTLY what makes him distinctive and great ! Then in 2008, the writers basically wrote Jeff the Killer...

The Joker's been lucky in the adaptation department. Every live action version of him has been great.Β Even the Leto one wasn't as terrible as people said.Β

Funny thing about Leto Souvenirs and Charity
And yeah, the comics may have become a clusterfuck of dumbfuckery, but at least the good adaptations stick to his best versions !

Interestingly I found his first appearance to be the most menacing. I mean telling people when they are gonna die and giving them no means of preventing it is pretty creepy. Interesting that they would later use that for TDK.

I prefer the O'Neil version of that first encounter. It's called "Images" and it's set a bit after the chemical accident as Bruce does not recognise the clown (it's the first he sees him like that after all !). And the Joker's plan is similar to that first appearance with the radio threats.

Really because I prefered to know the answer to how the Joker killed his victims at the end of the story. Not to mention the Joker is more impressive being able to make his own poison. Also, Batman chasing his enemies in a licensed car with Alfred in the front set...not a smart move.
With that being said I can see why you liked it. I mean the Joker was as egotistical as ever(then again that is usually how he is when O'neil writes him) and I know you really like him that way. I also found it a bit interesting how Bruce felt incredible guilt over Melvins death even tho he was barely responsible and Melvin was a partner in crime...made Bruce seem more like Peter Parker for a moment.

Batman in those years was actually very empathetic, so he does guilt trip himself a lot ! Better than post 2004 Bats or Rucka's if you ask me...
